Mackenzie Arden benefit event at the Tomfoolery Lounge was a success!
Largo: On Saturday, July 17th, the C.A.Y. Assistance Fund held a Benefit event at the Tomfoolery Lounge for Mackenzie Arden.
Mackenzie was born premature and has had many health concerns since then. She has had over 20 operations, and countless treatments since birth. Mackenzie is now 3 years old and has Cerebral Palsy. When she was a preemie in the hospital she did get an infection in her intestines. Since then she has had many problems with her intestines (but not limited to her intestines), which have caused her severe pain and having to be in an out of the hospital every couple months with associated issues and having to endure many procedures. Mackenzie needs to travel up to Ohio to see a specialist, the cost of which is very expensive. Mackenzie’s parents, Stephen Tyler and Danielle Duell, are trying desperately to get Mackenzie up to Ohio to get the attention she so desperately needs and deserves. Unfortunately, as many can imagine, it takes money….money that her parents do not have at the moment. This trip to Ohio is to see a Motility Specialist at Columbus Children’s Hospital, and to discuss what can be done for her and/or possible surgeries still needed. Mackenzie’s parents have been told by her doctor that this is one of the most promising avenues for them to take in helping Mackenzie in this one particular part of her cerebral palsy. The funds that were raised at Saturdays benefit will provide transportation to Ohio and back in order for her to get the care she needs.
The event, which was put together by Glen Yarbrough and Debra Biggins of the C.A.Y. Assistance Fund, puts together one benefit event every year to raise money to help kids with special medical needs. Last years event was held at the Tomfoolery Lounge as well. Several local businesses donated all kinds of products for the event. Publix Super Markets donated food for the event, and Great Bay Distributors donated all kinds of Anheuser-Busch merchandise to be used as raffle prizes. Several other businesses donated gift certificates for raffle prizes as well.
This years event was held from 1:00pm – 7:00pm, and was both advertised here in this column, and on local Tampa Bay radio station, Wild 94.1 fm. There was a very good turnout for the event that included food, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, live Karaoke and much, much more.
The event can be considered a success, all total raising $2,647.00 to send Mackenzie and her parents to Ohio so Mackenzie can see the specialists that she so desperately needs.
