One thing about Second Life® is true…you can look as good as you want to. But everyone needs a hand to look their best. So we found just the place for you to get ‘The Look’ for your SL profile pic. Liquid Dreams Photography http://slurl.com/secondlife/Maelstrom/54/25/23 specializes in the out of the ordinary pictures and albums for all occasions.
We met with LD owner and CEO Zazel Szymborska, and toured her studio to find out why she is different. Anyone can take a picture, right? Just point and click. Hardly.
“It’s my one of a kind studio,” Zazel tells us. “When I teleport into any studio, there’s clutter, big pictures everywhere.. it’s not straight to the point, you have to walk around and do guess work. Here all people have to do is land, be greeted and walk right to the silver frames, which show us, the photographers and a big huge board that tells them starting prices. It’s straight to the point and blunt, not to mention my studio is a bit weird when it comes to decoration.”
So why don’t they just do it themselves? “Some come here because they don’t use photoshop, or can’t take a great picture. So most of the time they come here and get it done, because A) it takes time off their hands and B) they get something special for their profile, loved ones. In other words it’s easier for them to pay and get something amazing done :)”
So what is your background? Are you a photographer in real life? “Nope, I do not have any background in real life photography, except for like maybe working for A picture people at one point in my life hahha. But if I were to get into something like that I’m sure I’d have a great start. Since I started panning the camera in 05 I knew I was a bit different in picture taking. It wasn’t untill recently that I started doing this, about a year and some months ago.”
What is the process you go through to get the finished pictures and backgrounds? “We take the picture via blue screen, take a few shots/poses depending on what the client wants and/or needs. Then we give them a time frame, reasonable depending how much we have to do, then we take that into photoshop and do our magic there.”
What kind of work have you done for SL clients? “Well, we have done single photo avatar pictures, couple pictures. Morphs which is exampled on the tree in back of me, interesting to do honestly. I’ve done pictures for a Porn sim owner.. odd I know but it happens. Gothic, Romantic, personal etc., you name it we can or have done it.”
Do most people know what they want in a picture? “Most of the time, we get people more than anything knowing what they want and how they want it. Other times we get first timers, and we just do our best to dazzle and wow them. Same goes for those that know what they want in a photo. Sometimes they just let us do what we do. We get alot of freedom to express ourselves.”
I suggested Zazel give us a sample of her work, and the process her studio goes through to get the finished picture. We decided to do a pic of me (imagine that?) and give you the start-to-finish look. I posed in front of a blue screen, and struck several dashing poses. We settled on one, and Zazel scurried off to ‘work her magic.’ As chronicled in the slideshow with this article, the finshed product is, well, amazing. The stages from raw image, to highlighting, shading of the facial features, to make me even more drop dead gorgeous than I already am, to final product with a backdrop image, made me draw a breath. I am one handsome devil, if not modest.
