The Twin Cities has two local garden companies that offer hands-on gardening workshops that help children interact with nature and gain insight into gardening. Bachman’s in Minneapolis is held the first Saturday of each month and Linder’s Garden Center in St. Paul is held the third Saturday of each month.
Kids in the Garden, Bachman’s free series of hands-on workshops, is held monthly from 10-11 am on the first Saturday of each month. The program is geared toward children aged 3-10. On Saturday, August 7, 2010, Bachman’s will have a garden scavenger hunt. The workshops are free, but advance registration is required as class size is limited to 30. Bachman’s is located at 6010 Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis.
Little Sprouts Club meetings, at Linder’s Garden Center, are held on the third Saturday of the month. The club inspires to teach children about gardening through a fun, educational them and related project or activity. The August meeting will focus on Fairy Gardens. The Sunflower group meets from 9-9:45 am, the Apple Tree group from 10:15-11 am, and the Rose group from 11:30-12:15 am. The club, which is a parent/child activity, is geared for ages 4-13 and has an annual fee of $15. Advance registration is required. Linder’s Garden Center is located at 270 W. Larpenteur Avenue in Saint Paul.
