Remakes usually tend to be a complete and total waste of celluloid. Ok, so they don’t use film anymore, so let’s just say that they are usually garbage! Not always, as there have been a few remakes that not only did their inspiration justice, but sometimes outdid it altogether.
The upcoming remake of Joe Dante’s 1978 classic “Piranha”, titled “Piranha 3D” certainly looks like it’s going to not only be respectful of it’s predecessor, but may (and that’s a very big may) outdo it when it comes to sheer violence and gore.
The film is directed and co-written by Alexandre Aja, who is best known by horror fans as the man behind the incredible French horror film, “Haute Tension” (released as “High Tension” here in the states), and stars Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O’Connell, Ving Rhames, Eli Roth, Christopher Lloyd and Richard Dreyfuss.
“Piranha 3D” hits theaters tomorrow, August 20, 2010 and is rated R.
Recently at the San Diego Comic Con, guests were treated to 9 uncut minutes from “Piranha 3D”.
Below is the leaked footage, all nine minutes of it, in it’s uncut glory. Parental warning: This footage is not intended for viewers under the age of 18.
