October 1–2, 2010
THE Seattle Creation Conference is an event dedicated to glorifying God through the scientific study of His creation, and refuting the false claims of evolutionism. http://conference.nwcreation.net/index.html
SIMILAR to Tracey Sumner’s Kid’s Guide to God’s Creation. She offers a delightful, full color illustrated guide to “earth, space, the human body—all of God’s creation.”
Kids’ Guide to God’s Creation, Kids Guide to the Bible, by Tracey M. Sumner, Barbour Publishing, 2010,160 Pages, Ages 8-12, ISBN-13: 978-1602607590, $9.99
Nine chapters of words and vivid, multicolored pictures explore the amazing creation story. Don’t be surprised to hear children go” “Ee-yuu””Oh” and “Wow” at the fascinating facts, incredible pictures and weird aspects of this wonderful world we live in. Chapters include, “Exploring the….” “The Way It Used to Be,” “Did You know,” “That’s Amazing!” and “Humans: Made in God’s Image,” “Your body—God’s most amazing creation.” Graphic and detailed pictures might prompt children to ask, “Is that really true?”
For example, “That’s Weird” contains pictures and stories of the day it rained fish in December of 2006 (pg 44) or Venus fly traps that dine on meat, (pg 70) black holes in space (pg 77) and other weird subjects to enchant kids and keep them flipping pages.
“Record-Breaking” includes images of the peak of Mount Everest, on the border of Nepal and Tibet, and shows the highest point on earth— 29,000 feet above sea level. The Dead Sea, located between Israel and Jordan, 1,370 feet below sea level is the lowest point on land. (pg 59) The astonishing picture of the tallest man recorded in medical history. (pg 144) Or the breathtaking photo of the sun with the caption, “If you sat 100 earths’ side by side they still wouldn’t be quite as wide as the sun.”(pg 78)
Readers begin with “Before You Get Started” where Sumner explores what Genesis 1:1 really means. “In the beginning God created…” She states it simply—everything. God made the universe and all that is in it for humans to use, enjoy and benefit from. Best of all, He made people in “His own image and likeness, with the special ability to know and communicate” with Him.
Sumner’s detailed, “day-by-day” account starts with the universe, and then adds the earth, plants, animals and all living things. I doubt kids will need encouragement to sit down and read Sumner’s book. Instead, parents and teachers alike might have to take the book out of their hands so they have time to get chores or school work done.
Kid’s Guide to God’s Creation, presented in the chronological order of creation, makes a fantastic resource for parents, children, or educators interested in intelligent design. Or just to learn amazing, intriguing facts about the world, plants, and animals of the world we live in. I loved it!
