It may be strange to imagine, and the queen of daytime TV right now is not Oprah Winfrey — instead, it’s a 67-year old semi-retired woman who is brutally honest in every single case in which she serves as arbitrator.
That’s right — I’m talking about Judge Judy. Judy Sheindlin may not be as rich as Oprah or have as big of en empire, but she is still doing just fine. Her court show — which features ordinary (often hilariously dumb) people trying to solve domestic disputes — brought in an average of 6.6 million viewers last season (up 7% over Oprah’s). Not only that, but USA Today is reporting that Judy will be paid a whopping $45 million a year for the duration of her contract (which ends in 2013).
What makes this number even more impressive is the simple fact that Judy only works 52 days a year as an arbitrator for the show — with this new contract, that ultimately comes out to being almost $1 million a day that she is on set laying down the law.
Do you think Judge Judy has one of the greatest jobs in America right now? Feel free to share your thoughts and stay tuned for more TV news.
