What started out as a simple Facebook post from celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels encouraging her fans to get a physical, has turned into a crusade on health care for Michaels.
Her original Facebook post read in part, “I wanna stress how important it is you do regular physicals. This way you can jump on issues before they become problems. Your challenge for the week is to get a Full physical!” What Jillian Michaels did not expect was the number of comments she received from people with no health insurance at all. No health insurance makes it pretty difficult for people to pay the $500-1200 it costs for a full physical and blood tests.
Michaels next FB post said, “Ok, I am so saddened to see all your comments on my post below about not having insurance or the finances available to get your necessary check ups. While this problem in our country has been well publicized seeing it come out of your mouths directly hits home very hard. In the future, myself and my company will make this issue a number one priority on our agenda.”
The Gen X TV personality went right to work on the issue, and though she could not make affordable health insurance magically appear for her fans, she posted a helpful message, “Ok, I’ve done some digging. There ARE free clinics & county clinics across the country that are funded by insurance companies as a means to help people get their health under control. I’m having my team at Empowered Media put together a list of all these clinics now & I’ll post on the home page of JM.COM as soon as it’s complete.”
Michaels then posted a link to http://www.freemedicalcamps.com/ and gave strong encouragement for her fans to contact a free clinic near them and make the appointment for a physical. It is estimated that 1 in 6 Americans have no health insurance.
