Founded and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams was the brainchild of Jeni Britton Bauer, now a mother-of-two who stumbled upon the idea of artisan ice cream-making while still a student at The Ohio State University.
An art history major, she concocted a “weird” mixture of chocolate ice cream and cayenne pepper for her college friends. Everyone loved it. She got inspired. And as they say, the rest is history. (Side note: Her Queen City Cayenne flavor is still a signature favorite among customers to this day!)
Along with her husband, Charly, and her brother-in-law, Tom, Jeni now runs a thriving family-owned business that is growing by leaps and bounds with a busy Internet business that ships nationwide. She’s been featured on The Food Network, made the Food & Wine’s Tastemaker Award list, and won a coveted Gold Medal award in the Gallo Family Vineyards competition.
WHAT MAKES JENI’S SO SPECIAL
Jeni developed unique techniques in order to make American ice cream less sweet and more flavorful. She only uses organic milk and cream from small family-run dairies, produce from nearby farms, and nuts and coffee from local roasters. Each flavor is artfully achieved with only the freshest ingredients found in the Ohio countryside as well as responsibly-raised exotics from around the world. Everything is handcrafted in Jeni’s production kitchen right in Columbus.
