To continue from our last encounter with a local Jazz band (by two or more names); let’s meet a group of Jacksonville, Florida’s entertainment professionals who will compliment any meal or engagement with sweet soul music.
David Sylvester/Saxophone, Trumpet & Clarinet
Originally from Chicago, IL, David Sylvester has worked with several musicians and groups in studio recordings, weddings, and venues throughout the US. David has played with Dove and Grammy Award winning Artist Phil Driscoll, and was also saxophonist for award winning spoken word Artist Tracey King and the Cushites. Over the last five years since relocating to NE Florida, you can find David playing with his church’s Praise and Worship team and at local engagements.
Richard Christie Jr. /Bass guitar, Rhythm Programming
An alumnus of Jacksonville University where he studied math and physics, Richard Christie Jr. has lived in Jacksonville for 25 years. Richard also plays bass guitar for his church. He enjoys composing music and editing tracks as a part time music producer, and he owns his own record company. Richard has had many opportunities to play with various musicians and singers including Donnie McClurkin & Daryl Coley. “I just love music and what it does to people”, says Richard. While the groups style of music touches primarily on smooth Jazz, their influences include Latin, Caribbean, funk, atmospheric, and many other popular genres.
Levan Poller/Lead Guitar
Formerly from Philadelphia, Pa., Levan (Van) Poller was the featured guitarist on several Gospel music projects across the US and Europe. He has combined his roots in Gospel music with contemporary Jazz to create a unique style that is all his own. Van has been fortunate and blessed to play with David Curry (Mississippi Mass Choir), Keith Pringle and a host of Gospel quartet groups. As an accomplished musician in both electric and acoustic guitar, Levan has also played with Gospel Hall of Fame Inductee Richard Smallwood. Over the past three years Van has utilized his talents at his church and several local engagements. He plans on completing a solo project in the near future.
Carlos Leon Peterson or C-Lo/Keyboard
Musical director for C1 Jazz, Carlos Peterson is a truly gifted musician. C-Lo brings natural talent to the band that has helped establish the C1 Jazz sound. With a strong background in multi-instrumental abilities, C-Lo adds a whole truckload of soul into each performance. If you ever see C-Lo smiling during a performance, what out! He likes what’s coming off the stage.
