There’s nothing better than relaxing music, good food and pleasant company in a calming atmosphere. Recently Ms. “V” had the opportunity to experience it all. A group of contemporary jazz musicians has the uniqueness of having two names: “The Richard Christie Jr. Band” (under the leadership of Richard Christie Jr.), and/or “The David Sylvester Quartet” (under the direction of David Sylvester). Two more musicians complete the quartette and their names are Levan Poller and Carlos Peterson
Once these men of God get together, the instruments blend to the rhythm of the beat. They all attend local churches (Voice of Joy Ministries and Faith Christian Center in the Jacksonville, Florida area). Those persons, who have the pleasure of being in the audience, usually catch themselves singing the words to popular tunes of the seventies, eighties and nineties. (Part II will have bios of the group)
Now let’s talk about the restaurant that brought Ms. “V”, the band and a scrumptious meal altogether in one location. It’s called “Brick Restaurant” and it’s been open for seven years and according to Jacksonville-Fine-Dining-Examiner, George Singeltary, Brick has established itself as one of Jacksonville’s finest dining spots under the ownership of Steve Kunz. According to Marshall Peters and Charlotte Peer (managers ‘at your service’ for that evening) Brick has live jazz from Thursdays to Saturdays and serves lunch and dinner seven days a week with Brunch on Sat. and Sun. You may also choose to be seated outside with comfortable seating (heaters blow warm air in winter & a cool misting in summer).
An ambiance is created with trees cascaded in white lights, welcoming you to the restaurant. Families could enjoy the atmosphere and children are not out of place; there was even room for a Birthday party. For the ‘die-hard sports fan’ there is spacious room at the bar where ESPN may be viewed. And speaking of the food – no extra seasonings were required. Ms. “V” enjoyed the parmesan chicken stuffed with spinach and goat cheese, sautéed in sundried tomatoes/capers/and a white wine tomato sauce. On the side was a slice of beef-steak tomato and a vegetable medley consisting of zucchini, red onions and carrots. The atmosphere, food and location have earned this eatery five stars.
