It is not the best kept secret in Washington, but it cannot be said enough: If you want a truly lovely end to your week, complete with sangria and live music, then (FREE!) Friday Jazz in the Sculpture Garden is a must.
I do not think there could be a better gathering of the diverse faces that make up the District. There is sangria, wine, crab cakes and kebabs. And while you wait in line for any of those refreshments, there is the best opportunity to people watch ever.
You have the summer Capitol Hill intern crowd, the Congressional staffers, the recent grads who live in Arlington Courthouse, the policy and think-tank group amongst many, many others who scatter themselves throughout the Alice in Wonderland-esque grounds of the stunning Sculpture Garden. What better way to welcome the weekend than with your feet soaking in the sun-drenched water from the fountain while Latin infused jazz plays in the background?
The Jazz in the Garden series starts every Friday at 5pm and goes until 8:30pm. Arrive early to get the best spot on the grounds and bring a blanket! Get additional information, such as pre-ordering a “keepsake” picnic basket here.
