I saw a version of this made on a Martha Stewart show and it was so interesting that I decided to try it. It was absolutely delicious!
It’s amazing all you can do with bread and cheese. Here is a simple, yet surprising method of combining the two for a tasty meal.
Grilled cheese sandwiches are perfect any time of year. Whether in the hot Michigan summer or frigid winter — they don’t heat up the oven and they warm the soul.
Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe
- 4 large slices of bread (Tuscan, sour dough, etc.)
- 6 slices of provolone
- Olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
Stack the slices of bread with two slices of provolone between each slice of bread. Put short skewers (long toothpicks) through each corner section of the sandwich, then slice the sandwich in quarters (each quarter should be secured with a skewer).
Put enough olive oil in a skillet to equal about a ½ inch. Put the minced garlic cloves in the oil and cook for 5 minutes. Leaving the garlic cloves in the skillet, place the sandwich quarters in the pan and cook on each side until toasty (using tongs to turn them so the skewers remain intact).
Serve with preserves, bruscetta mixture, or without anything. These are very tasty!
