The PewResearch Center, a non-partisan think tank, recently conducted a study asking Americans what they knew about Obama’s religious beliefs.bit.ly/d0tyTZ
Overall, 57% of Americans believe he’s a Christian while 12% of Americans believe he’s a Muslim. Surprisingly, there was little difference between the views of Republicans and Democrats. Fifty-five percent of Republicans believe Obama is Christian vs. 60% of Democrats. Twelve percent of Republicans believe Obama to be a Muslim vs. 12%, as well, for Democrats. The others were unsure of his religious beliefs. According to the study, approximately 25% of voters say they don’t know what Obama’s religious beliefs are, including 10% who say the reason they don’t know is not that they “just don’t know enough about him,” but instead that they’ve “heard different things about his religion.”
Interestingly enough, when the news media, including the Washington Post, ABC News and the Los Angeles Times reported on the study, they ALL reported that the beliefs about his Muslim faith were erroneous, false or incorrect.
The LA Times ran an article on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, titled “Poll: Growing number incorrectly call Obama Muslim”. bit.ly/ay1ZLc
The Times reported “Obama is the Christian son of a Kenyan Muslim father and a Kansas mother. From age 6 to 10, Obama lived in predominantly Muslim Indonesia with his mother and Indonesian stepfather. His full name, Barack Hussein Obama, sounds Muslim to many.”
The facts prove differently. Obama’s mother was a self-proclaimed atheist so there’s no reason to believe he was raised a Christian. http://bit.ly/bWqQUk
Reporter Aaron Klein reports in World Net Daily that Obama’s Indonesia school records listed Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Obama, as a citizen of Indonesia AND a Muslim. Showing an image of Obama’s registration card at Indonesia’s Francis of Assisi school, a Catholic institution, it’s clear that his step-father, Lolo Soetoro, listed Barry as an Indonesian citizen born Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His religion is listed as Muslim.http://bit.ly/95f6U0
In 2007, a New York Times reporter was surprised at Obama’s familiarly of the religion.
Nicholas Kristoff of the New York Times, in an article dated March 6, titled “Obama, Man of the World” wrote that “Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate [Arabic] accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated…Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.” bit.ly/cALOHm
When Obama was a Community Organizer in Chicago, he joined the Trinity United Church of Christ, run by pastor Jeremiah Wright who taught Black Liberation Theology. Black Liberation Theology, first organized by The Rev. James Cone, has roots in 1960s civil-rights activism and draws inspiration from both the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X, as “mainly a theology that sees God as concerned with the poor and the weak.” Black Liberation Theology condemns a White establishment for oppressing the poor and uses messages from prophets of the Old Testament, including Christ, to condemn such action. It’s not a typically Protestant or even Christian religion following in the life and teachings of Christ. n.pr/bDf0e2
With a background of being a practicing Muslim and no proof of switching to Christianity, the question remains, is Obama a Muslim?
