Wouldn’t You Know That The Ground Zero Mosque Is Not A Mosque at All?
Are Liberals A Terrorists Best Friend?
The Ground Zero or Cordoba House mosque is not a mosque at all. This clarification comes from U.S. News and World Report opinion editor Robert Schlesinger in a piece entitled “The Ground Zero Mosque Is Not A Mosque (or at Ground Zero)”. In it he writes:
“Despite what you might have heard, a 13-story mosque is not going to be built at ground zero in lower Manhattan. For that matter, a 13-story mosque is not going to be built within a few blocks of ground zero. Rather a 13-story building is going up which will contain, among other things, a mosque.
This might seem like an academic distinction, but in the heated debate surrounding Park51, or as the building is known more commonly, the “ground zero mosque,” it really is an important one.
First here are the facts: The building in question is planned to be a Muslim community center, a sort of YMCA (or, I suppose, YMMA). The plans are for it to have fitness facilities (swimming pool, gym, basketball court), a 500-seat auditorium, a restaurant and a cooking school, exhibition space, a library, art studios, a 9/11 memorial–the impudence! the outrage!–and childcare facilities (which no doubt will soon be referred to as a “Manhattan Madrasa”). And it’s also going to house a mosque.
But calling the entire building a mosque is a bit like referring to the Empire State Building as a 103-story Walgreens because the pharmacy chain has a store on the ground floor…”
What Is The History Of Violent Radicalism Coming From The Local YMCA?
Mr. Schlesinger had one point correct in his piece, which is that his argument, like many arguments originating from the left, is academic in nature. Not real life, and not with any basis in common sense. It originates from what liberals believe to be a superiority of thought and of morality.
Is Schlesinger so naive as to believe that the true purpose of this “community center” is to provide a place for the Muslim community to come and work out the kinks in their backs in the swimming pool? That it is a building that is designed to be a place to reach out to the community for bridge building?
Can a New York City Jew feel comfortable going there to grab a quick swim at lunchtime? Can a Catholic come for a quick pick-up game of 4 on 4 basketball with his cross hanging around his neck?
Is there any room planned inside as a remembrance for those who died on September 11th and for a condemnation of those who perpetrated the attack? Who is funding the mosque and what are the beliefs of the Imam behind the project? Has he denounced Hamas as a terrorist organization?
The left-wing media, much like the left-wing White House, places appearances over reality. The illusion of religious freedom over common sense. All to the detriment and danger of you and I who are just not smart enough to understand.
