Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with perfect skin. However, great make-up begins with great skin, and the key to beautiful healthy skin begins with lifestyle.
Nutrition and eating the right foods, drinking lots of water, exercising and getting adequate rest all contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, there are some very important things to avoid if you want great skin. You should avoid the sun and use products with UV Blockers to protect your skin from exposure. The sun can cause premature aging, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation in your skin, and excessive exposure to the sun can also lead to skin cancer. A Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 is suggested in the winter and 30 in the summer. Smoking accelerates aging in your skin and increases wrinkles. It increases the impurities in your skin and robs it of oxygen, causing it to look dull and saggy.
Equally important to creating a healthy lifestyle is developing a good skincare routine. A typical skincare routine should be followed twice a day, in the morning and in the evening before bed.
Step 1- Remove your makeup and cleanse your skin If you are wearing makeup, first remove your makeup using a makeup remover. A long wear makeup remover may be necessary for removing hard to remove makeup, such as mascara and gel eye liner. Next apply cleanser all over the face to remove bacteria, makeup, dirt and oil built up on the skin. There are several options for cleansers- soap, gel cleansers, oil cleansers, cream cleaners, exfoliating cleansers. Choose the cleanser that best suits your skin.
Step 2- Exfoliate your Skin. Exfoliating restores dry, dead skin cells and clears out your pores so that your make up will ‘sit’ properly when applied. This should not be done daily as it may be too harsh. 2-3 days per week should be sufficient. You will notice that your renewed skin will have a healthy glow.
Step 3- Tone and Freshen Skin. Follow your cleanser with a toner. Toners help to improve your skin’s appearance by shrinking the pores. A soothing toner is meant to remove any remaining traces of residue, dirt, any excess oil and dead skin cells and any remaining traces of make up once the skin has been cleansed. They cleanse and refresh the skin and give you a healthy looking glow and improve the PH balance of your skin, to give it a natural appearance. Depending on your skin type, toners should be free of oil or alcohol. Witch hazel and rosewater are natural toners that are gentle to the skin.
Step 4- Moisturize the Skin. It is important to moisturize your skin to keep it hydrated, soft and younger looking to help prevent wrinkles. Moisturizer reduces the loss of moisture from the skin, and it acts to protect, nourish and hydrate the skin. Even people with oily skin need to use a moisturizer, just because the skin is oily doesn’t mean it is properly hydrated. Look for an oil-free, water based moisturizer that will help control oil. Moisturizer will also help your foundation glide on smoother.
Additional products you might add to your skincare regimine might include blemish treatments, eye creams, and night time treatments.
Acne is not just a problem among teenagers, often oily areas of the skin are prone to acne. Investment in a good acne treatment can help to treat the skin and decrease the inflammation of the skin. Be careful, acne treatments that are too strong and always apply acne treatments to clean skin.
Eye creams and treatments are formulated to help treat many different conditions. From helping to reduce, fine lines and wrinkles or crows feet, to helping brighten darknes and soothe puffiness around the eye area. If eyes are an area of concern, seek products that contain cucumber extract, aloe or green tea extract. These ingredients all help to soothe and calm the skin. If you are using a concealer to correct dark circles around the eyes with your makeup application, eye cream is essential for a smoother application.
Night Time treatments are generally more highly concentrated to treat the skin. Night time treatments are generally fomulated to treat different skin conditions. There are treatments specifically for oily skin, dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles, anti-aging, to tighten and reduce pore size, even to boost collagen. Once you determine your skin’s condition then you can select a treatment appropriate for that condition. Gre
