Governor Ritter was in the news today as a prominent voice questioning the Obama administration’s decision to pursue the lawsuit against SB 1070 in Arizona. Politically this move is not viewed as helpful for Democrats in the 2010 mid-terms.
This was particularly interesting as the commentators; throughout the day, quoted the Denver Post poll that 62% of Latinos in Colorado support Arizona SB 1070.
The lawsuit was characterized as hitting Democrats running for election this year as “toxic.” Basically asking “What were you thinking?” Ritter along with other Democratic Governors had a private meeting yesterday with top administration staffers over this issue.
At the same time, Attorney General Holder, when asked why the administration called SB1070 out for the possibility of racial profiling, yet nowhere in the complaint was this addressed and was not included in the suit.
Holder’s answer: the Justice Department filed the strongest suit possible at this time. He added the caveat that perhaps they will file on the racial profiling at a later date. Translation: if we lose the first suit, we will look for examples of racial profiling after SB1070 takes effect.
Justice Department lawyer, Tony West, is the lead attorney in this lawsuit. West is the attorney who defended John Walker Lind, an American citizen who was at war with the United States on the side of the Taliban.
The majority of the citizens in our country indicate over and over again, to secure the border first before you talk to us about changes in our immigration laws. This has been true since the Bush, McCain, and Kennedy attempt for comprehensive immigration reform that failed in 2007.
Andy McCarthy, Former Assistant US Attorney said in an interview with Fox News this morning, that Hezbollah is on the Mexican border, using the position for drug smuggling to raise money for their cause. Mr. McCarthy states the group will remain there until triggered by instructions from Iran to become aggressive politically.
Our national security is so devastatingly fragile on our Southern border. Must we have another 9/11 before responsible parties move to protect our country at the border? We have a President, sworn to protect our country who directs his staff to spend their time in frivolous lawsuits. And we have an Attorney General already planning the next assault on the Arizona law if he loses the first attempt. What kind of insanity is this?
