There are a ton of gamers who claim they stay in shape with games like Wii Fit or Just Dance. But how can that be true when so many Wii Fit boards are either being returned, or used as coffee tables? Most people would rather play 5-finger fillet than Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum.
Perhaps the exercises just aren’t as fun as they used to be. Luckily, here are the latest, most exciting ways to work out with Wii that will surely shed the pounds and captivate your interest.
Exercise #1: Getting Back on Board
Okay, so it’s time to go get that balance board … used, of course. The Williams Grove flea market in Mechanicsburg is a great place to pick up old Nintendo stuff, but any yard sale should do. Buy one for $5 or less off of someone who’s Wii fitness journey has come to an untimely end.
Bonus: Want to take the intensity of this workout up a notch? Forget where you parked your car.
Exercise #2: The Dead Space Shuffle
Can’t find a used balance board, eh? No problem, because this next workout will burn serious calories. Simply set up the Wii in your basement, turn the lights off, and fire up Dead Space Extraction. Every time the game scares you silly, run up the steps screaming. You should be able to get 3 to 4 reps in before someone yells at you to stop.
Note: This exercise also works with any game that has clowns in it.
Exercise #3: Bo Knows Frustration
For this one, you’ll need to download Tecmo Bowl, and also have a punching bag handy. First, set up a game against the Raiders. You know they’re going to call Bo’s play, just try and stop them.
After the first half (before you’re about to freak out), go to work on the punching bag for three minutes, then play the second half. Think of it like Chessboxing, only without the cool Wu-Tang song to go along with it. I’m sure T-Pain and Ke$ha will write a song about Tecmoboxing once they find out how popular it is.
Hint: If you’re using the nose tackle glitch, remember: when you’re cheating on your workout, you’re only cheating yourself.
These exercises will have you ready to show off your summer physique in no time, so get to it! As Jillian would say, “Why choose failure when success is an option?”
