George Hincapie (BMC Racing), the reigning national pro road titlist and 14-time Tour de France finisher, crashed out of stage 2 of Tour of Utah on Thursday.
Hincapie fell on gravel about midway through the hilly and rainy stage from Thanksgiving Point to the top of Mt. Nebo. Hincapie was transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. He did not suffer any fractures, according to team media representative Sean Weide.
Hincapie was using the six-day Tour of Utah to prepare for ProTour races in Sept. 10 in Quebec City and Sept. 12 in Montreal and then the defense of this national title Sept. 19 near his residence in Greenville, S.C.
The rider’s status for future races is unknown.
