With the economy the way it is these days it’s nice to find free things to do in Lansing. July 17th and 18th there are two free activities going on for families or individuals to enjoy.
Woldumar Boating Bonanza
Canoes and kayaks will be coming around this bend in the Grand River Saturday afternoon the Woldumar Nature Center on Old Lansing Road. The center will be welcoming the participants in the Grand River Expedition 2010 and the public is invited to join in the fun.
At the Woldumar Boating Bonanza: A Celebration of the Grand River and Grand River Expedition 2010 guest will be able to take part in river education activities, enjoy the nature trails, and wave to the canoes and kayaks making the journey from Jackson, Michigan to Grand Haven, Michigan. All of this for free!
There will also be canoe rentals, pontoon eco-tours and food (taco bar and pizza) for a small fee.

While at the nature center you may also want to check out the Butterfly Garden at the entrance to the office. At the web site you can place an order for your own Woldumar Honey or Butterfly Calendar. You might also want to mark your calendar for September 24-25 for the American Heritage Festival which also takes place at the Woldumar Nature Center.

Kresge Art Museum
If an afternoon in the outdoors isn’t to your liking you can always stop in at the Michigan State University Kresge Art Museum on the MSU campus. The “EyePoppers: Big and Bold” exhibit is running from now until July 30, 2010 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays (till 8 p.m. Thursdays) and noon-5 p.m. weekends. From the Kresge Art Museum web site, “This exhibition of over 25 works of art celebrates art of the past half-century: Pure abstraction, Op and Geometric art, and Color Field paintings. Acquired through gifts and acquisitions over the fifty-year history of the Kresge Art Museum, they follow the major artistic stylistic trends during this time.”
