This Saturday brings us the fabled Woodward Dream Cruise and as the Dream Cruise has grown a ton since its beginning in 1995, the event draws over 1.5 million people and over 40,000 classic and antique cars. During the glory days of “cruising Woodward”, muscle cars ran the streets so it is only fitting that one of the top head-turners this year with be Ford’s new Boss 302 Mustangs.
Seeing the popularity of the Dream Cruise, the Detroit automakers have gotten involved with elaborate areas dedicated to the current and historic cars from that company and no one display at the Dream Cruise is as easily recognized as Mustang Alley. Ford announced this morning that they will use Mustang Alley and their factory display to bring us the local debut of the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and Boss 302 Laguna Seca Package.
Mustang Alley and the Ford factory display are situated on Woodward at 9 mile road in Ferndale and along with over 500 privately owned Mustangs from the past 45 years; Ford and Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) will have a collection of new models to check out. Ford will feature many of their new models such as the new Taurus and Fusion alongside the 2011 Mustangs and 2012 Boss Mustangs and from the powerful off-road ready SVT Raptor F150 to the Shelby GT500, the high performance SVT models will be well represented in the massive Ford factory area. There will also be special garage area setup where Ford owners can purchase Ford Racing parts for their car or truck at a discounted price and have the items installed right there at the Cruise. Needless to say, the Ford display will also offer plenty of Ford branded goodies for the whole family.
Ferndale was the home of the original Woodward Dream Cruise as a group of local parents wanted to raise money for a new soccer field. They had hoped to draw enough people to raise money for their new field and when that first Woodward Dream Cruise in 1995 came to an end – over 250,000 people had stopped by Woodward Avenue to see the amazing event.
The weather is looking a little sketchy for this Saturday but I will be at Woodward and 11 mile with my 1972 Dodge Demon 340 and for those of you considering coming out you should remember, your car isn’t made of sugar and a little rain won’t do any damage. Also, if you don’t have a classic car but you still want to take in the Cruise, please park your pickup truck, minivan or whatever daily driver you use to get to the 2010 Woodward Dream Cruise and find a seat alongside the road so that you don’t clutter up the road for the cars that belong in the legendary Dream Cruise.
