Marriages in India have been arranged for thousands of years, and traditionally the Hindus of India would only marry with the blessings of their astrologer. This is still common in much of India to this day. According to Vedic astrologer Carol Allen, author of Love is in the Stars – The Wise Woman’s Astrological Guide to Men, one of the reasons for the Hindu tradition of marrying somebody that you’ve only met once or perhaps only at the altar (and whom you historically couldn’t divorce, nor could you remarry anyone else), is that they have developed incredible Vedic astrology techniques for relationships that are spectacularly accurate.
In her e-book and newsletters, Carol focuses on what she’s discovered are the five critical keys to relationships. They are compatibility, the capacity to relate, similar long-term goals, timeliness, and relationship skills.
“Compatibility” refers to how comfortable you are with your significant other. Do you find them easy to get along with? Are they the kind of person you are looking for? Does their astrological chart show you to be both an emotionally compatible match, and also able to move forward together as a couple?
The second key is whether the potential mate is a good “relationship person.” In other words, can the person be in a successful relationship at all? Or are they a workaholic or philanderer, or do they have personality or addiction problems? In Vedic astrology there is a technique that shows a person’s relationship capacity. It literally shows if they can engage in successful relationships or not. From Carol’s experience with thousands of clients, if you’re beautifully compatible with someone who can’t do relationships, you’re going to be miserable if you stay with them.
The third key to a good relationship is whether person-A is the kind of mate person-B is looking for. Do you need and want the same things? If one person wants children and the other person doesn’t, it doesn’t matter how great your chemistry is, it doesn’t matter how much you can talk, it doesn’t matter how wonderful you feel together. You want different lives and won’t be happy together.
The fourth key is whether it is time for love. Astrology shows cycles, seasons, and timing in a person’s life. Your Vedic astrology chart can see when somebody is in a relationship period—when they will likely meet someone really important—and when are they not. Because when you’re not, no matter what you do, Carol says, “If it isn’t time, it isn’t time. It’s like trying to plant crops when the ground is frozen. It’s very exciting to be able to tell people to relax, enjoy your friends right now, or enjoy your work right now, or go back to school, or focus on you, because all that self-effort toward a relationship isn’t going to be rewarding—or here’s the time when it will be.”
Carol speaks from personal experience. She was told at 23 in her first Vedic astrology reading not to even bother trying to have a relationship until she was 30, that in her 20’s, nothing was going to stick. She became determined to beat that prediction and played a game she calls “beat the planets.” By 29 she was so exhausted from dating the wrong partners she finally surrendered and at 30, three days into the time window, there was her husband.
The fifth key to a good relationship is not astrological but about life skills. Do both people have good relationship skills? Having those skills requires learning, study and information. Most of us didn’t have great examples of great relationships. The happiest couple on television is Marge and Homer, and Homer is always drunk and Marge is usually grumbling. Everybody loves Raymond – except his wife. In her coaching practice Carol teaches based on research proven in laboratory settings what works in relationships and what doesn’t.
