With a line to Freelon and 4th Streets and spotlights marking the party destination, the latest and one of two Saturday night 18+ LGBT parties – Club Papi and Frisco Robbie’s Brinca being the other – has returned after a four year absences.
GAMeBoi SF dominated Glas Kat Supper Club August 14th for the grand re-opening of the party that is a main stay in the WeHo party scene.
GAMeBoi SF Bay Area Director of Operations Danny Pham said, “Due to GAMeBoi LA’s popularity, we expanded into San Francisco with our first event May 28, 2005. We held eight more events between two different venues. These venues were just not working out for us; our last event was June 3, 2006. We hold ourselves to very high standards. Finding the right venue that is large enough with nice security staff and in a safe neighborhood – to name a few things – are important. We stayed dormant for four years because we told ourselves, ‘we will only put GAMeBoi’s name on it when everything is perfect. Now it is that time.’”
With the prolonged absence of GAMeBoi in the Bay Area, Rage Nightclub has been hosting the hot Asian party in WeHo since January 2003. “GAMeBoi LA has been held every Friday at RAGE uninterrupted.”
Pleased with the unwavering success and support of GAMeBoi LA, Pham added, “We are looking forward to our 8th year anniversary celebration in January 2011.
With such amazing success in WeHo with GAMeBoi, I wondered why the event is so popular. “There are several reasons why GAMeBoi LA has been packed every Friday for the past 395 events.” Pham began, “Without giving too many secrets to our success, our guests know they will have a blast every time. We pride ourselves in our music videos played by VJ LaRock. We don’t limit ourselves to typical hip-hop music; we also play pop, dance, some trance and kpop.”
GAMeBoi remembers that the community is important. “We pride ourselves in giving back to the community. In 2009, we gave out Nintendo Wiis, iPods, Macbooks, Artist CDs, Guestlist VIP Cards and an assortment of Giftcards” said Pham.
During a six month period, GAMeBoi LA offered free hors d’oeuvres and discounted drink. Going farther, GAMeBoi provided guests with a complimentary gourmet buffet during the fall and ice cream nights during the summer.
Expanding from WeHo to San Francisco, Pham said, “We invested a lot for this ‘Red Carpet’ Grand Reopening. People are flying in from LA, Denver, Hawaii and Vancouver to make this event” and the presence of the long line outside after midnight and the packed house inside showed.
Over two levels, two dance floors and the front lounge bar were full of party people. From GAMeBoi LA fame, VJ LaRock flew to the Bay Area to man the decks and screens in the main room as PKDJ spun the hip-hop hits in the front bar lounge area.
Though the party is 18+, after midnight, the 21+ lounge was opened up allowing total mixing among the crowd. The dance floor, balconies and stage were all packed with dancing boys and girls enjoying LaRock’s beats.
As an added bonus to the GAMeBoi SF customers, two tickets to the Lady GaGa Concert at The HP Pavilion in San Jose were raffled off after 1am.
Founder and owner of GAMeBoi Thomas Michel said, “We are very grateful for the warm welcoming and showing by the fans here in the Bay Area.”
Bench and Bar Marketing Director Valentino Carrillo said, “It’s fabulous! This is one of the best venue’s I’ve ever been too. I see a future for GAMeBoi; they are going to go along for the long haul.”
If you missed the grand re-opening, GAMeBoi SF will be returning to Glas Kat Supper Club every second Saturday of the month but Pham adds, “We will expand in the future.”
