If you get nostalgic about starting school again when September begins to creep in, leaving August as just a hot and hazy memory, try marrying your studious yearnings with yoga! Each year, there are a variety of yoga trainings in NYC that can help you deepen your own practice and if you so choose, help you start to teach others to do the same. Whatever your intention, Fall is a great time to keep your yoga practice alive as your body adjusts to the cooler temperatures on the horizon.
NYC Yoga Teacher Trainings and Continuing Ed Intensives:
OmWellness Holistic Nutrition Certification Intensive Training Program – starts 8/25
There is more to yoga than just the asanas, in fact there are seven more limbs! OmWellness has crafted a program to become a Certified Holistic Nutritionist. The Fall session is available in two format options – weeknights and weekends – and guides its students on a path to natural, happy, healthy living as well as showing them how to help their community and clients do the same.
7 month course (Wednesdays or Weekends).
Tuition is $4,350 (enroll with a friend and you each get $200 off).
Sacred Strength Yoga Education (RYT 200) – starts 9/11
Led by Stephanie Culen, the founder of Sacred Strength Yoga, and Mindy Frenkel, a top yoga instructor at Equinox Fitness Clubs. Also, expect guest lectures by other well known, super smart NYC yogis.
Limited to 10 students.
2 month course.
Tuition is $2,800.
Anatomy Studies for Yoga Teachers – starts 9/21
Jason Brown, a Licensed Massage Therapist and long-time yogi who currently teaches his Zenyassa style at Pure Yoga, provides a very structure and detailed course related the science of the human body to yoga poses. The course allows yoga teachers to understand their students bodies better, allowing them to create sequences tailored to help heal injuries or ailments as well as synchronizing stretching, strengthening and lengthening targeted muscle groups. The 108 hour curriculum is broken down into three parts, Skeletal System (Part 1: 9/21-12/7), Muscular System (Part 2: 1/4-3/22), Anatomy of Yoga Asana (Part 3: 3/29-6/14).
9 month course (Tuesdays).
Tuition is $1,595 for all three parts, $645 for each part separately, $75 for single session drop-in.
Authentic Yoga Training with Tara Stiles – starts 10/9
Tara Stiles, known for her comfortable approach and affordable studio ($10/class), has partnered up with Tao Porchon-Lynch, the 92 year old yoga guru, to design an accomplishment-based certification program that involves discussions, doing lots of yoga and also helps with post-training job placement.
1 month course.
Tuition is $2,500.
