Wrestling factions are common place. Arguably, the first dominant wrestling faction was The Four Horsemen. Later came the New World Order, D-Generation X, The Nation of Domination, and so on. Even in the Tulsa area, we have had the likes of The VIP Crew, The Texas Outlaws, ICF, La M, and the list goes on and on. But one faction, Excellence Personified, could possibly top them all.
Excellence Personified was started on a whim by “The Kingpin” Mike Iles and Handsome Jack Legacy. They brought “Mr. Saturday Night” Michael Barry on board and EP was off and running. A little over one year later, they now have several members and are winning everywhere they go.
On Saturday, August 14th at Compound Pro Wrestling’s 4th anniversary show, they set out to show the fans how dominant they really are. They were scheduled for three title matches.
In the first title match of the evening, Michael Barry challenged for the Showtime Title held by Evan Newcastle. Accompanied to the ring by all EP members in attendance, Barry picked up the victory and the title. His title celebration was cut short by Tim Rockwell who speared Barry and began pummeling him. Rockwell had lost the opening match of the show when Barry and Iles came to the ring and distracted him allowing Steven Sterling to roll him up for the pin. Now Rockwell was here to pay him back. But there is safety in numbers as the rest of EP saved Barry and attacked Rockwell. EP left the ringside area triumphant as Rockwell laid in a heap on the mat.
EP’s second title match was The Jet Setters (Handsome Jack Legacy & Darling Dustin Heritage) challenging for the Tag Team Titles against Legion 13 (Dutch Hagen & Jesus Rodriguez). The teams have faced each other many times and in fact, won the Tag Team Titles from EP members Handsome Jack Legacy & Se7en on March 13, 2010. But again, EP had the entire roster at ringside, including new recruit X-Cal. The Jet Setters picked up the win and EP was now 2-for-2 with one to go.
The final title match for EP had Se7en competing in a Triple Threat Match for the Oklahoma X Division Title against champion The Canadian Luchadore and Sam Stackhouse. All three competitors had their manager at ringside, Stackhouse with Big Stevie Caballero, Luchadore with Sensei Bolo, and Se7en with “The Kingpin” along with EP security, Kenny Campbell. It was a hard fought match. After a vicious kick to the head from Se7en to Stackhouse and a count of three, EP had swept all their title matches. Iles also hit Luchadore with Bolo’s kendostick for good measure.
Now EP controls three of Compound’s four titles. The only title they have not challenged for as of yet, is the Heavyweight Title, which was won by Shane Morbid at the anniversary show. Morbid had vowed to retire if he didn’t win the title from Richie Adams. Morbid is now the 1st two time Compound Heavyweight Champion.
Other Oklahoma wrestling fed title held by EP members include:
-Beyond Your Imagination Wrestling Heavyweight Title (Michael Barry)
-Maximum Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight Title (Jack Legacy)
-Maximum Wrestling Alliance MAX-Division Title (Dustin Heritage)
-Tornado Alley Pro Tag Team Titles (Dustin Heritage, Se7en, Michael Barry, & Jack Legacy as any member can defend the title referencing what is known as The Freebird Rule)
Plus, the also hold titles in feds outside Oklahoma:
-Mid-States Wrestling Heavyweight Title (Michael Barry)
-Southern Tag Team Titles (Dustin Heritage & Jack Legacy)
-Coastal Commonwealth National Wrestling Title (Jack Legacy)
All told, 10 titles are currently held by members of EP. Their case for most dominant fed has several valid point.
