DJ Phil B rocked the decks; performers Alexis Jordan and the “Pretty Mess” Erika Jayne brought beauty, talent and fun to the crowd at Sundance, the headlining partying of the Gus Presents Sundance weekend in the Russian River Sunday, August 15th.
With perfect weather for a pool party, men traveled from San Francisco and all over the bay to Guerneville for the party. Drag Queens Shea Butter, Max Amillion and Wynona Smith and Wesson were the door girls, welcoming the guests to the party. Butter said, “I’ve been seeing a lot of sun and I want to get my dance on. “
Enjoying the party pool side, Amillion said, “Not only does Gus Presents throw a fabulous party but it guarantees gorgeous men all around.”
The party kicked off at noon and Phil B kept the beats flowing to make the bodies move on the green and orange dance floor. At 3pm, Alexis Jordan took the stage and delivered another powerhouse performance. “Today I’m performing my single Good Girls and the Wideboys remix to Happiness. It’s a lot more dancey-er than the original” said Jordan before going on stage.
The combination of Jordan’s amazing vocal power for an 18-year-old and the up-tempo energy from the remix that the circuit crowd loves produced roaring applauds from the crowd as she departed the stage. She was swarmed by fans requesting pictures as they offered Jordan their thanks and praise for her performance .
An hour later, Erika Jayne took the stage with her team of dancers all oozing sex appeal. Jayne performed her signature track Pretty Mess and her latest single One Hot Pleasure. Following her performance, she spoke with me backstage about her current projects and soon approaching performance at San Jose Pride, Sunday, August 22nd.
“Pretty Mess is about a philosophy” Jayne said. “It’s about all the roles that we play as women to get what we want in the end. I’ll be a princess, I’m a temptress, I’m a pretty mess.”
Jayne’s newest single One Hot Pleasure was written by Luciana and Nick Clow. Jayne added, “It’s a really good song which I enjoy performing. We just shot a video for One Hot Pleasure and I’m excited for its release.”
Instead of taking the time to produce an entire album, Jayne is focusing her energy on an EP. “It’s really exciting to be working with new producers and new writers. I feel as though we are getting somewhat of a harder edge on the music and the material. It’s really refreshing.”
Thinking about her performance at Sundance, Jayne said smiling, “It’s very hot but we’re in such beautiful surroundings. This crowd was really great because they are very much into the music.”
After performing, Jayne took pictures with fans. “They are sweet” Jayne began. “Everyone here was saying really nice things after the show and very friendly. That kind of feedback always makes you want to work harder and give it all you can and I couldn’t feel greater, I really felt at home.”
For anyone who has seen Jayne at the main stage at San Francisco Pride this year, Gus Presents Colossus during San Francisco Pride, the Gloss Holiday Party last year at Trigger or any of her numerous performances for the gay community, she loves to flaunt sex. “It just kinds of leaps out naturally. Sex, boys and glits is kind of my theme these days. I talk about sex a lot, I push sex a lot. It just comes from a natural place for me and I’m comfortable doing it.”
Jayne is constantly on the move. “We just got off a plane this morning (Sunday, August 15th) from New York. We had a great show on Fire Island; we did really well and they couldn’t have been a better crowd; they were nuts. We’re heading to San Jose Pride next weekend, have a little bit of down time and then pick-up at Southern Decadence in New Orleans. “
With San Jose Pride a few days away – August 21st and 22nd – I wondered what the Pretty Mess had down her spandex for the South Bay crowd. “More sex, more boys, more glits and you know more fun. That’s really what the project is about. I really want people to be able to have fun and enjoy the music and leave all of your problems somewhere else. Have fun on the dance floor. If I can make you have a moment of fun, then that’s all it’s really about.”
