While Des Moines is a wonderful place to live, it isn’t exactly the hub of all things bath, baby and home. But thanks to Jennifer Hansen that is changing. Hansen opened her wonderful bath boutique, eden in the East Village in 2003 and recently relocated to a cozy niche next to Gong Fu Tea on East Sixth Street in July.
“Eden has 3 main “categories”: bath, baby, and home, with a primary focus on carrying hard to find lines that you would not normally see in the Midwest.” Hansen explains. As the sole distributor in Iowa for big names like Kiehl’s, Diptyque, and Bugaboo, eden is the perfect place to find the hard to find.
Always on top of the up and coming, Hansen shares that the rare argan oil is gaining in popularity. “I’m seeing a lot of new products using fairly-traded argan oil. I particularly enjoy the Kiehl’s superbly restorative argan dry oil. It’s a multi-purpose, restorative dry oil that can be used on the face, body or hair. It’s also a celebrity favorite. Rose McGowan purchased the dry oil at eden while filming in Des Moines last summer.”
Tagged as one of eden’s favorite things beauty icon Audrey Hepburn was said to have a rather simple beauty routine and Hansen can relate, “I’m a low maintenance girl on a mission to be radiant and even-toned. A girl has to dream, right?” And to help her achieve her glowing complexion, she turns to the Twilight fresh face glow from Fresh. “It’s a sheer, illuminating cream that imparts a brilliant yet natural-looking radiance to all skin tones for a flawless finish. It can be worn alone or under makeup as a primer,” she adds.
Another eden favorite, Kai is a fragrance line of perfumes, candles, and body care all infused with the signature Kai scent. “The intoxicating smell of gardenia drives my senses into overload and takes me on a mental vacation to Hawaii,” Hansen exclaims.
While Kai does boast a long list of Hollywood ‘devotees’ you don’t need to travel to Hollywood to experience it. Eden will be hosting a spa day featuring Kai’s body polish on Friday, August 20th. Stop by between 10-6 for a demonstration of the exfoliating salt based scrub followed by a dab of Kai’s lotion and a spritz of their perfume. “You will be in Maui before you know it,” convinces Hansen. “Aloha!”
