Dr. Adam Wayne Lebowitz would tape himself having sex with young boys and send the images over the Internet.
His attempts to entice a 15-year-old boy led to his ruin.
A federal judge in Atlanta on Monday sentenced the 50-year-old Decatur doctor to 26 years in prison for the pornographic tapes and for trying to coerce the young boy into engaging in sex acts, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“As a doctor, this defendant took an oath to ‘never do harm’ to anyone. He not only violated that oath, he sexually violated children and then published his violation on the Internet, victimizing the children each time the videos were viewed,” U. S. Attorney Mrs. Sally Quillian Yates said in a prepared statement. “His long term of incarceration ensures that he will no longer threaten another child.”
A jury convicted Mr. Lebowitz on Feb. 25 of producing child pornography and attempting to coerce and entice a minor to engage in unlawful sex acts, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
It’s unclear how long and how many young boys Dr. Lebowitz may have sexually exploited.
“A number of counties had state charges against him for other incidents,” U.S. Attorney spokesman Mr. Patrick Crosby wrote. “I am not qualified to tell you what they are because I do not know the details. We can only accurately provide what is charged and sentenced federally.”
The following are the details released through the U.S. Attorney’s Office:
Coweta County Sheriff’s investigators found out about Mr. Lebowitz on Oct. 26, 2006 because of a series of emails and sexually graphic instant messages he sent a 15-year-old boy.
The boy’s mother contacted the sheriff’s office, triggering an undercover investigation that resulted in Mr. Lebowitz arrest in the driveway of the boy’s home on Nov. 2, 2006.
Investigators said Mr. Lebowitz had multiple condoms and sexual lubricants inside his vehicle at the time of his arrest, and had planned to transport the boy to his Decatur home.
A search warrant of Mr. Lebowitz home, investigators seized three computers, two of which contained video recordings of Mr. Lebowitz engaged in sex acts with two young boys.
Members of the FBI’s Safe Child Task Force identified the victims in the video recordings and contacted them.
Both victims told investigators Mr. Lebowitz had recorded himself engaged in graphic sex acts with them when both were minors.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation examined the computers and discovered that Mr. Lebowitz had sent images from his recordings of the two young victims over the Internet.
Mr. Lebowitz was ordered to have no contact with victims in the case, and must register as a sex offender upon release from prison.
“(Monday’s) sentencing should remind us all that child predators come from all walks of life and efforts to offer profiles of such individuals to a concerned public are elusive at best for this very reason,” FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Brian D. Lamkin said in a prepared statement.
