The Great American Beer Festival in Colorado is a lot like the World Beer Festival held in Durham and Raleigh. Some of the best breweries bring their best beers for the best beer connoisseurs (and newbies!) to enjoy. Over 2,200 beers will be put together under one roof and sampled during separate sessions over the course of four days in September. Do you want to go? You’d better buy tickets quick – they’re already sold out Friday and Saturday afternoon, there’s just two sessions left that you can attend.
If you like craft beer this is definitely one of the best beer events you can attend. From the Great American Beer Festival’s press release, this is probably the best reason any true beer lover should attend this event, “The largest collection of U.S. beer ever gathered in one place. One-stop access to the brewers and beers that make the U.S. the world’s greatest brewing nation. Liquid proof of why beer sales far exceed the sales of wine and spirits combined in America.”
The Great American Beer Festival isn’t just about the tasting. Unlike the World Beer Festival in Durham there’s a Designated Drivers section where the DDs can taste craft sodas and root beers as well as get free massages. If you’re a homebrewer, you may want to check out a pavillion dedicated to the art of homebrewing. And, what I think is one of the coolest parts, there’s a silent disco. Once you’re done drinking, put on some headphones, blast your music and burn off the Calories you just took in. Finally, if you’ve always wanted to be a craft beer judge, you can even sit in on a class to learn exactly how it is judges choose the best beers. And just like at the World Beer Festival there will be plenty of sessions on how beer is made, how to taste your beer and a food & beer pairing class.
Also, if you do decide to go, you may want to check out CraftBeer.com’s list of other activities happening in the area during the week. You can go visit a local brewery, attend a rare Denver beer tasting, or sit in with BeerAdvocate while they hang around Denver.
Still unsure about attending the Great American Beer Festival? Why don’t you check out some of the North Carolina breweries that will be attending. (Click here for the full list of the 522 attending breweries
