The concert to benefit the Children’s Restoration Network in Atlanta is on track to break the Guinness World Record. The fundraising event started at noon on July 10th, and more than 300 performing acts are stepping up to the plate for this worthy endeavor. The 343-hour free concert is currently taking place at Red Rabbit Pizza Pub in Johns Creek. If all goes as planned, “343 For Kids” will break the Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Concert by Multiple Artists.
“343 for Kids” is a 343-hour, non-stop concert designed to raise public awareness of just how serious the problem of homeless children is right here in metro Atlanta. While CRN works with shelters and group homes that house over 2,200 children on any given night, there are an estimated 8,000 children that are living in abandoned buildings, cars, woodlands, or a friend’s home. Raising awareness of the plight of homeless children will hopefully bring more resources to help alleviate this devastating problem. In addition, Children’s Restoration Network will raise funds for its annual Back 2 School Campaign. Every year, CRN collects new book bags and school supplies to ensure that metro Atlanta’s homeless children are physically prepared for the upcoming school year. A fundamental principle of Children’s Restoration Network is that a good education is key to breaking the cycle of homelessness. “This event will go a long way in allowing us to physically prepare metro-Atlanta’s homeless children for the 2010-2011 school year,” said a CRN representative.
The free concert began at noon on Saturday, July 10, 2010 and will run through 7:00 PM on Saturday July 24th. There is a different theme for each day. Theme days continue as follows:
- July 16: Wedding Day
- July 17: Stars & Stripes Day
- July 18: Inspirational Day
- July 19: Choir & Symphony Day
- July 20: Latin Sounds Day
- July 21: Hair Band Day
- July 22: Rhythm & Blues Day
- July 23: Jazz Day
- July 24: Rock & Bikes Day
If you’re in the area sometime this week, be sure to stop by and check it out. The event was picked up by a local TV station and is being promoted all week as a charitable community event. This will go a long way towards getting people out to the event and helping CHR raise necessary funds in a tight economy.
