The nominees for the 2010 Ohio Hip Hop Awards have just been announced. The awards ceremony is the flagship event of the larger Ohio Hip Hop Awards & Music Conference Weekend to be held in Cleveland, OH on September 16th through 19th, starting a day earlier than expected. The actual awards ceremony will be held at Dream Nightclub on September 18th.
Several Columbus-based artists, venues, companies and publications have been nominated for awards. Nominees include Skully’s Music Diner, BoMA and Club Ice in the live venue and nightclub categories. In the media outlet category and college radio categories, FlyPaper News and Fresh Face Radio were recognized with nominated as well. Columbus-based fashion received nods for JWork Limited & Ro The Realest. The 40/20 Boyz and Omnibreed both received noms for in the new group category. Jayonna Fabro was nominated for best model, while J. Rawls and Konata picked up nominations for best show host. Elevator Music was awarded a nomination in the entertainment group category.
J. Osceola was nominated in the solo artist category, while Trek Manifest and Copywrite were among the artists in the lyricist category. The 3rd and Fly Union were named in the established group category and Power 107.5’s City (who will also share hosting duties at the ceremony) was nominated for best radio personality. In the holy hip-hop category, Mark The Prophetional was listed among the nominees. Songstress/emcee Kim Joyce received a nod in the vocalist category. L.e’s “Anti-Parachute Theory” was listed among the finalists in the mixtape category, while WCKX received a nomination for best commercial radio station. Poetry in the City of Columbus is heavily represented in the spoken word category, with nominations going to Barbara Fant, JG the Jugganaut, Searius Add and Will Evans.
In the producer category, both Elevator Music and A.U. were awarded with nominations. The album of the year category is also dominated by Columbus acts. The 40/20 Boyz‘ “Book Bag Theory,” J. Osceola’s “The Brain Food Project,” Illogic’s “Diabolical Fun” and Copywrite’s “The Rebirth” all received nominations. In the female artist category, Dominique Larue picked up another nomination, while L.e, Hodgie Street and Copywrite picked up noms in the best male category. Bow Wow was recognized with a nomination in the national noisemaker category and Fly Union picked up a nod for their video for “Po’ed Up.” Rounding out the nominations was Reese’s A.U-produced, “Couldn’t Do Me” which features Philly P, Skeptic, Cridie Mac, Trav Dave, & Blaze was nominated for collaboration of the year.
Voting is now open and any individual with an email address can vote once per day, per computer all the way until September 13th.
