I love surprise visits from friends, and this one luckily had business in Jax for one day, so it gave us an excuse to all meet up and chow! Some of us were craving breakfast, others lunch, so this place right near her meeting location fit the bill. Coffee Cup Caffe located at 4021 Southside Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32216-4643, (904) 564-9900 offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so we all decided to give it a try.
Don’t let the slightly run down exterior discourage you! Inside, it’s adorable, with a cozy, your-in-somebody’s home feel, and a coffee cup fountain in the middle, so unique! You order at the counter, get your drink, then someone brings your meal to whatever table you sit at.
First, the menu is quite extensive for breakfast or lunch. I ordered the one egg breakfast with home fries and whole wheat toast ($3.75), orange juice ($2.00), and a Belgian waffle ($4.95), thinking it’s not a lot (yeah, right). Roxana, a connoisseur of corned beef hash and a breakfast eatery fan, ordered what else but the corned beef hash breakfast with 2 eggs, home fries, and toast. Cathy ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with potato salad (other side options available) ($6.75), and her mom ordered LT’s taco salad ($7.49), and I have no idea who LT is.
Informing the help at the counter we’re all new to the place, they are so sweet to bring over 4 free huge muffins! Pistachio, cranberry, blueberry, and apple muffins are brought to our table and offered to warm them up if we want. Starving, I devour half of the pistachio that is light, fluffy, chock full of pecans, and enjoyed each bite, and we save the rest for later. Our food arrives quickly, nice and hot and in bigger portions than I thought! (Not that I mind). My scrambled eggs needed a little salt, but the home fries were crispy with nice addition of onions and green peppers; the waffle is big (sorry, was so hungry, I forgot to take a pic of my own food!), a bit dense, but it had a nice flavor and a great browned crust. Roxana loved her corned beef hash (she has tried many and lives in Miami where a nice mecca of restaurants lies). Cathy said her sandwich was very good, and her mom said her salad, albeit huge, was very good, also.
We could not finish the amount of food, but I would definitely return. Their entire menu (breakfast, lunch or dinner) items are all under $10, my kind of place! Other deals abound such as their early bird special from 6 – 8 a.m. that offers a $2.99 breakfast consisting of one egg cooked your way, choice of bacon or sausage, grits, and choice of toast or biscuit.
