CNYDogs: Entry closings, agility trials, ASCA shows & obedience trials celebrate dog days of summer

Entries close today and tomorrow for USDAA agility tests and AKC trials slated for later this month at Over Rover Training Center, Cato, NY. Meanwhile, AKC agility exhibitors, and ASCA obedience and Australian Shepherd conformation enthusiasts from across the northeast and Canada converge on Syracuse this weekend for all-breed events at Oneida Shores Park, Brewerton and Over Rover Training Center, Cato, that begin on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Entry closings: August 4 and August 5

The United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) Sanctioned Tournaments and Agility Test, August 13-15 at Over Rover Agility Training Center, Cato, NY, closes at 9pm, Wednesday, August 4. Entries must be received prior to 9pm today by secretary Dee Bramble, PO Box 15, Cato, NY 13033. Entry fees for standard and non-standard classes are $12 per class. Entries for the Grand Prix Qualifier, Performance Grand Prix Qualifier (SM), Steeplechase® Qualifier, and Performance Speed Jumping (SM) events are $22 per dog. Entry fees for the Team Tournament and Versatility Pairs events are $60 per dog.

The August 19-22 Ruff Riders Agility Club of Upstate NY AKC agility trials at Over Rover Agility Training Center close on Thursday, August 5 at 6pm. These outdoor trials on grass are open to all AKC breeds and mixed breeds registered with the AKC Canine Partners program, and offer FAST, Standard and JWW classes all four days. Entries are limited to 660 runs per day, with Excellent limited to 330 runs per day.

Central NY Shetland Sheepdog Club AKC Agility Trials, August 5 – 8

This Thursday through Sunday, Central New York Shetland Shepdog Club (CNYSSC) hosts four days of outdoor AKC agility trials at Oneida Shores Park, McKinley Ridge East, Brewerton, NY. Superintendent and trial secretary is Pawprint Trials, Noreen Bennett, 1 West Street, Belchertown, MA 01007. The trials are open to all breeds and mixed breed dogs registered with AKC Canine Partners.

According to the trial confirmation letter, running order for the weekend will be 26” dogs to 4” dogs on Thursday, August 5 and Saturday, August 7. On Friday, August 6 and Sunday, August 8, running order will be 4” dogs to 26” dogs for all classes. Each day will start with FAST classes followed by all Standard classes in one ring and all Jumpers with Weaves (JWW) classes in the other ring. Novice and Open Standard, Jumpers and FAST will each have one walk-thru. Excellent FAST will have one walk-thru. Excellent Standard and JWW classes will have split walk-thrus. 4” to 16” dogs will walk and run as one group and be judged. Then the 20” dogs will walk and run, and the 24” through 26” dogs will walk and run. The schedule for each day is:

Thursday

  • Ring 1 Walk-thrus 7:45am, Judging: 8:00am. 26″ – 4″ Ex FAST, Ex Std, Open Std, Nov Std
  • Ring 2 Walk-thrus 8:00 am Judging: 8:15am. 26″ – 4″ Open FAST, Nov FAST, Open JWW, Nov JWW, Ex JWW
  • For THURSDAY, the running order within each JUMP HEIGHT will also be reversed

Friday

  • Ring 1 Walk-thrus 7:45am Judging: 8:00am. 4″ – 26″ Ex FAST, Ex Std, Open Std, Nov Std
  • Ring 2 Walk-thrus 8:00 am Judging: 8:15am. 4″ – 26″ Open FAST, Nov FAST, Open JWW, Nov JWW, Ex JWW
  • On FRIDAY Preferred dogs will run first in each jump height for FAST only

Saturday

  • Ring 1 Walk-thrus 7:45 Judging: 8:00am. 26″ – 4″ Ex FAST, Ex Std, Open Std, Nov Std
  • Ring 2 Walk-thrus 8:00 am Judging: 8:15am. 26″ – 4″ Open FAST, Nov FAST, Open JWW, Nov JWW, Ex JWW
  • For SATURDAY, the running order within each JUMP HEIGHT will also be reversed

Sunday

  • Ring 1 Walk-thrus 7:45am Judging: 8:00am. 4″ – 26″ Ex FAST, Ex Std, Open Std, Nov Std

Heart of NY Australian Sheepdog Club ASCA conformation & all-breed obedience trials, August 6 – 8 

Friday through Sunday, Heart of NY Australian Shepherd Club (HONY-ASC) hosts five Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) conformation trials for australian shepherds and three ASCA all-breed obedience trials at Over Rover Training Center, Cato.

HONY-ASC’s Dawg Daze of Summer August multi-show and trial event begins on Friday, August 6 with a conformation show limited to Australian shepherds, and an obedience trial for all breeds. Friday’s show entries are limited to those people who pre-entered.

Saturday and Sunday each feature two ASCA conformation shows – one each morning and afternoon – limited to Australian shepherds. The weekend events also feature one ASCA obedience trial each morning which is open to all breeds and mixed breed dogs. Day of trial entries are accepted on Saturday and Sunday morning from 7:30 – 8:30am, for conformation and obedience judging that begins at 9am, and from 11:30am – 12:30pm for conformation judging that begins at 1pm. Obedience trial entries for each day must be made before judging begins at 9am.
