Horror movies often make do with unknown casts in order to hack away at budgetary constraints.
And genre fans rarely mind.
Some of the best horror movies ever featured relative unknowns in key roles.
Does anyone remember the male lead in the 1968 shocker “The Night of the Living Dead?” This Film Examiner is a horror movie buff and I’d have to hit imdb.com to recall his name.
And no one from the modern horror classic “The Descent” became a big star after that film grabbed horror junkies by the scruff of the neck.
So it’s nice to see the new horror flick “Case 39” feature some recognizable talents, including an Oscar and Emmy winner.
The film stars Renee Zellwegger as a woman investigating the curious case of a young girl with some serious baggage. The “Cold Mountain” star is joined by Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane of “Deadwood” fame.
The trailer looks rather ordinary, but there’s a good chance the cast will make this rise above the standard Hollywood horror crop.
