Chic literature genre gains more and more readers and fans among women every day, and sometimes even among men. And why not, since a chick-lit book is such a nice way to relax and have fun. Many movie makers find their inspiration in chick-lit books, and some of the movies based on chick books have been real hits.
Some of the most brilliant examples are:
Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding, published in 1996, turned into an acclaimed same name movie in 2001, starring Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones.
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, published in 1999, is the sequel of the novel Bridget Jones’s Diary. A same name movie was based on this novel, which was released in 2004.
The Devil Wears Prada, a novel by Lauren Weisberger published in 2003, was the basic inspiration for the same name movie released in 2006, starring Meryl Streep as The Devil Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs.
Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella inspired the movie makers to bring Rebecca Bloomwood (played by Isla Fisher) on the big screen. Confessions of a Shopaholic the movie was based on the first two books from the Shopaholic series – Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, with plot elements from the next two books of the series as well – Shopaholic Ties the knot and Shopaholic and Sister (Suze’s wedding from the movie takes place in the third book, and the scene with the frozen credit card is inspired by the fourth book).
Fashion plays an important role in chick movies, just like it does in the source books, where it’s a distinct character. Patricia Field was costume designer for some of these movies – The Devil Wears Prada, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Sex and the City. She had a huge influence on the destiny of these movies due to her fashion talent, bringing movie fashion to the level of art.
