Besides facial waxing (eyebrow, lip and chin) the bikini area is the next most popular waxing service my clients ask for at Sky Lounge Skin Care. From simple clean ups around the bikini line to the ever detailed and super bald Brazilian, men and women are giving their private areas extra attention this year. As a skin care professional it is my duty and pleasure to keep clients skin baby smooth and bump free. Here are steps to follow to help you achieve this.
48 hours before your waxing appointment, give the area a good scrub to exfoliate and add ease to the hair removal process. Removing dead skin will provide a better canvas for removal and will also allow any hairs trapped below the skin to be released and ready for removal. Please don’t do this the day of your appointment as you will regret it! Removing that layer of skin hours before your service will cause burning and possible dermabrasion which in simple terms means skin ripped off; not pretty.
After your service you will want to take certain steps to avoid irritation and infection which will lead to hair bumps.
Do not take hot baths or showers- this means NO sauna or steam room either for the next 24 hours. Steam helps open pores which is normally beneficial but not after waxing because waxing opens the pores as well. This will allow an area for bacteria to thrive and grow. It is recommended to take lukewarm or cold showers the day of your service.
Avoid friction (SEX) for at least 12 hours as well. As much as you want to enjoy your newly bald areas having sex can cause more harm than it’s worth. During sex a lot of fluids are exchanged and since your pores are still open they can become trapped under the skin and cause unsightly bumps that will be very painful. So do yourself a favor and just wait. If for some crazy reason you can’t wait get up IMMEDIATELY afterwards and wash the area with soap and water, apply and antiseptic and completely dry the area. This may not prevent irritation so as previously stated: Just wait!
Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands- I shouldn’t have to go into detail with that.
Wear loose fitting clothing- Underwear or jeans that are too tight provide the perfect environment for bacteria to grow.
Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
