Bucks County River Country is the perfect way to beat the heat during the summer. Located in the heart of Bucks County just eight miles North of New Hope, Bucks Country River Country has everything you need for the perfect tubing, kayaking or rafting adventure.
At Bucks Country River Country, you are able to take a two, three or four hour excursion down the Delaware River. Once you arrive at River Country and find the tube that is appropriate for your size, a bus will take you to a drop off point along the river. After exiting the bus, you will follow a path that leads directly to the water. It is ideal to bring water shoes or old sneakers for purposes of entering the river because the rocks on the base of the Delaware are slick, slimy and at times jagged.
In certain areas, the Delaware River becomes wide and deep which makes it hard for tubers to catch a strong current. If there is no breeze, tubers may find themselves paddling more often than they like. However, in shallow areas of water the current can be quite strong, even if there is no breeze to help you along. Do not panic and stand when the water becomes shallow in areas, simply lift your bottom and continue floating to avoid touching the river rocks. Standing, especially on days with a strong current can be extremely dangerous. The slick rocks on the river base make it easy for one to fall and become seriously injured particularly in shallow water.
A pertinent piece of advice is that tubers should always stay to the left (the New Jersey side) of any river islands. The water to the right (the Pennsylvania side) is exceptionally shallow and in some spots, the river runs completely dry. Tubers will find themselves walking most of the trip on uneven ground if they float near the Pennsylvania side of the river islands. If at any time tubers are lost or confused about the safest and best tubing route, one is able to refer to the map marked on the tube.
Along the river, tubers and rafters alike will be able to get grub at the infamous ‘Hot Dog Man’ stand. The Hot Dog Man is a floating concession stand stacked with a full menu. Simply follow the signs and float on over for lunch or a snack.
