Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are back together and reportedly engaged following his recent public apology to her parents. Us Weekly broke the exclusive Bristol Palin-Levi Johnston engagement story in today’s issue with the headline proclaiming “We’re getting married.” The family’s cover photo prominently includes an engagement ring. The tabloid reports Palin, 19 and Johnston, 20 got engaged two weeks ago without the consent of their parents.
The young couple recently called a truce to the public fighting and custody battle – agreeing raising their 18 month old son, Tripp, together was what was best for him. While the co-parenting agreement and Johnston’s apology to Todd and Sarah Palin has apparently lead to the couple rekindling their romance, Bristol Palin says her mom isn’t so quick to forgive. The younger Palin says she does believe that will come with time (along with Levi getting an education and a job) despite the 18 month public war of words between Alaska’s former first family and Johnston.
Levi Johnston became a household name after it was learned he was the father of then-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s unborn grandson. Johnston then traveled the campaign trail with the Palin family during the 2008 Presidential race in which Sarah Palin was running as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate. Sarah Palin announced her daughter and Johnston would marry. But Levi and Bristol Palin called off wedding plans after breaking up in March 2009.
From there things went downhill with Johnston publicly fighting with the Palin family over custody of his son and his loose lips speculating why the grandmother of his baby prematurely left office. He also posed for Playgirl, starred in his own Playgirl pay-per-view special, and shopped an Alaska reality show. But now it appears he’s turning a new page with Bristol Palin and hoping to convince his former (and perhaps future in-laws) he’s a changed man.
