With Jefferson County Schools heading back on Monday, and Littleton Public Schools and Arapahoe Community College already back in session, it’s time to compare wedding planning to going back to school.
First, no matter how old you are everyone knows that going back to school can be a dreaded time. It means the end of Summer and nights of homework after spending all day at school. Though planning a wedding doesn’t consume as much time as schoolwork does, it can also be dreaded. There are so many details, and assignments you have to do in order to have your wedding come together.
In school we celebrate graduation with a big party and a send off to our next chapter of life whether it be college or the workforce. Weddings are a big party and send off into another chapter of our life which is marriage. However in order to get that celebration hard work is needed to pull it all together.
Here are the assignments needed to complete your wedding:
Choose a wedding date
Choose your wedding party
Ask your wedding party
Set a budget
Meet with vendors (this is like the midterm exam, you have to confirm and pay vendors at least six months in advance, sometimes more so plan ahead!)
Order Wedding Dress
Order Bridesmaid Dresses
Confirm guest list
Pick out invitations
Register (this is the bonus quiz in school, not always necessary but will get you extra credit with guests!)
Plan rehearsal dinner
Write vows (if you want)
Finally after all of the hard work, get married!
For those who are looking for ways to help with planning the wedding then you can always consult a wedding coordinator or planner, but this is something you need to budget for as well.
If you love weddings, and after completing your own assigned wedding to coordinate feel this is your calling, you can also go back to school and get certified to become a professional wedding coordinator. Arapahoe Community College does offer event coordination certifications and there is a seminar on weddings coming up in October at the Chapperal Campus in Parker. Click here to look into ACC as your certified event coordinator choice.
Or if you are a student planning your wedding while going to school, make sure to budget your time between school and wedding planning. Both are time consuming and it’s highly recommended that you choose a wedding date in the Summer or during a school vacation. The week of your wedding is going to be crazy busy with guests coming in and all the pre-wedding events, that you don’t want to fall behind on your studies.
No matter where you are, take planning your wedding seriously, cause nothing is tackier than a couple who is ill prepared for their wedding day!
