I went shopping this week. I was primarily observing in different environments to see if the stores were populated more than usual. It appeared so and my rationale for the shopping spree is that it’s back to school time. Parents are stocking up on clothes and supplies for their kids and themselves.
Earlier this week I scouted Office Depot. The parking lot by Office Depot on State Bridge Road off of Medlock Bridge Road had a few cars. Although I did not go into Office Depot, I did see customers coming out with bags and sometimes boxes (computers and accessories most likely).
Friday evening (August 6, 2010) I went into Belks in The Forum Shopping Center. Not many people were in the store. There were a few sales, so I attribute the store’s emptiness to the timing, it was about 6pm. Probably most people were at dinner.
My first stop on Saturday, August 7, 2010, was at the Lenox Road T.J Maxx. Although not crowded, the store had a good amount of foot traffic. Almost everyone was holding onto some item they were considering purchasing. With all registers open, there was a line to check out. This store had a lot of new items (items I had not seen at other T.J.Maxx’s in the last couple of weeks). Hot spots included kids, ladies clothes and housewares.
Next stop Nordstrom’s Rack (same shopping center with T.J. Maxx). This store was a bit more crowded than T..J. Maxx. Almost every area of the store had customers milling about. Like T.J.Maxx, customers were holding on to possible items for purchase. Clothes seemed to be the most popular area. I only saw a couple of people looking at shoes.
I then headed toward home and stopped at another T.J.Maxx. This time the one on Holcomb Bridge and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. A good crowd was here too! I saw different items from what I had seen in the Buckhead store. Clothes and shoes were the target of shopper’s attention here. Again all cash registers were open, but there was a line to check out.
Last stop, Discover Mills. I went into Neiman Marcus Last Call. If the parking lot is any indication, then Discover Mills is doing really good for back to school. Neiman Marcus Last Call had a nice crowd. Not your typical back to school store, business looks pretty good. Not crowded but good traffic and people are buying. Neiman’s is offering an additional 30% off clearance merchandise and another 20% off storewide with a few exceptions.
Well that’s it for now!
