According to the official website for the Secret Society of Happy People, the official Happiness Happens Month is August. The year 2010 will be the eleventh year this has been annually celebrated. The eleventh Happiness Happens Month was launched with the annual “HappyThon” which occurred August 1, 2010 on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, other online social websites and emails in an attempt to generate twenty-four hours of global happy chatter throughout the Internet by those participating; mostly members of the Secret Society of Happy People, friends and families. The intent of the “HappyThon” was to spread happiness by chatting, texting or emailing to others about everything happy.
When does a person celebrate Happiness Happens Month? One can celebrate it daily from August 1st through 31st, weekly, bi-weekly or on Happiness Happens Day (formerly Admit You’re Happy Day). Happiness Happens Day has been August 8th since 1999 when the Secret Society of Happy People chose this day for recognizing and expressing happiness throughout the entire day.
How can a person commemorate Happiness Happens Month? There are numerous ways to happily observe Happiness Happens Month. One method to honor this is to have a Happy Happiness Happens Month homemade banner outside the front of the house so everyone will know August is the month for propagating happiness. Some people listen or email to related happy stories of special happy moments or trips. Others visit art galleries to view artwork that helps people smile. The concept behind Happiness Happens Month is to express and recognize everything happy.
The Secret Society of Happy People’s membership includes Oklahomans. A member of theirs who resides in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area admitted to a friend on Facebook from Sulphur, Oklahoma that she was an “official member”. This Oklahoma City area “official member” further commented via Facebook that there were other members in this vicinity. This means a Secret Society of Happy People member could be any neighbor or friend of any Oklahoman. These Secret Society of Happy People Oklahoman members joyfully admit to being one.
The Secret Society of Happy People warns that sharing happy thoughts and happy news is not a politically correct thing to do. They claim this began December 1998 when Ann Landers discouraged people to include a happy holiday newsletter in their holiday cards. The founder of the Secret Society of Happy People, Pamela Gail Johnson, has dedicated her life and efforts, which includes public speaking events and national television appearances, to spreading happiness to all.
The Secret Society of Happy People happily welcomes happy people to visit their website sohp.com. Any happy person may apply for membership; their sole prerequisite. This society happily plans to increase its happy people membership annually by 100% (a happy figure) through proliferating happiness.
