There are many reasons why people take a break from dating. They may have just escaped a bad relationship and need some time to process and heal (every person should take some time off after a relationship before starting a new relationship to prevent bringing the old relationships problems into the new relationship), they may have been busy with school or work obligations, they may have not felt ready for a relationship, whatever the reason for taking a break from dating how does a person know when they are ready to jump back into the game?
Do you know what type of relationship you want? Are your goals clear about what you are looking for? Are you ready to settle down, get married, and have children? Are you ready for a committed relationship? Do you just want to enjoy the company of someone, have fun, and see what happens? Knowing what you want before hand will help you find what you are looking for. If you are not entirely sure what you want out of a relationship go on a few dates and see if you can figure it out.
Have you unpacked all the bags from your previous relationships? There is a reason people use the term ‘baggage’. When a person holds on to all the expectations, feelings, hurt, resentment, etcetera, from their previous relationships they end up taking all those feelings and emotions into their new relationship. Take some time, unpack the bags of emotions and feelings, and everything else you may be lugging around, and kick the baggage to the curb. Taking the time to release whatever you may be holding on to from previous relationships will help in providing you with a great starting point to begin a new relationship.
Is your world in order? Do you have the time to devote to a relationship now? Are you in a happy place with yourself? The only thing worse than not being finished with an ex before starting a new relationship is not being healthy and okay with yourself and ready to start a relationship. Image what you expect out of a relationship. Do you meet your own expectations? Do you want someone financially stable, healthy and physically fit? Do you want someone who is happy and has a schedule, work or otherwise, that leaves plenty of time to devote to a relationship? If you find that you do not meet all the requirements you pose on your dream date it would be a good idea to at least start working toward meeting those expectations. When you are at a place where your life is great and you are happy and satisfied on your own then you will be in a much better place to attract the kind of relationship you are looking for.
Dating can be scary and relationships are work, but both can be amazing and open up a world of possibilities. Be yourself, treat others as you would like to be treated, and just be ready for a relationship just in case you end up on a date with your soul mate.
