Rudy Giuliani was a tough prosecutor as U.S. Attorney in New York City before he became mayor of that city. Many opponents of his tough stance against law breakers accused Giuliani of prosecuting cases to further his political aspirations. Of course, Giuliani did go on to a storied political career that included purging the city of high crime rates and becoming a national figure in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Andrew Thomas, current candidate for Attorney General, is Rudy Giuliani for Arizona.
Thomas made a promise while running for Maricopa County Attorney in 2004 to “stop illegal immigration.” During his tenure in that office, he did more to turn back the tide of illegal immigration, by fighting for new tough laws and prosecuting all criminals associated with illegal entry into this country, than anyone in recent times. These actions naturally attracted detractors who have tried to “stop Thomas” at all costs. The detractors include liberals in the press, Democrat legislators, left-wing activists, members of the Board of Supervisors and, remarkably, presiding judges in Superior Court.
Because the press attacks Conservatism at every turn, Thomas has been the scorn of newspapers large and small. He too found vocal enemies on local television news programs. One ambitious reporter for Channel 12, published Thomas’ home address, along with the names of Thomas’ young children, on the news channel’s website, during the reelection campaign in 2008. Every criminal holding a grudge against the County’s top prosecutor now had access to cause him some serious payback! Despite all this, Thomas continued on and did not back down in his fight to control crime through the prosecution of 40,000 cases per year that included limited plea bargaining and longer prison sentences.
The challenger in the Republican primary for Attorney General race against Thomas, Tom Horne, does not have the high calling and the steel in his spine for the fight that Thomas has. Thomas has been through the wars, both political and otherwise, and will continue to serve the people of Arizona with the integrity that comes from internal faith and external fire.
Giuliani became America’s Mayor despite his many detractors. Thomas will become Arizona’s Giuliani if voters ignore the noise from small people who oppose a tough, principled, taking-it-to-the-streets prosecutor.
Like Governor Jan Brewer, Thomas as Attorney General will become a great national voice in the battle to control the untold thousands of border violators who trample on the laws of this country day after day, month after month, year after year. Arizona voters, don’t miss this chance to be part of history. Join with me in voting for Andrew Thomas as Attorney General.
