After muslims took flying lessons from us, grabbed control of our own commercial airliners, rammed them into our Twin Towers, sent 3,000 unsuspecting victims to their deaths because of belief in Islam, muslims then tell us to be tolerant and ask our permission to build a tribute to Islam in the area where those towers once stood.
The mosque (Cordoba House project) will be the conversion from a 152-year-old, five-story Italianate Renaissance-style warehouse at 45-47 Park Place, just two blocks from Ground Zero. Even though landing gear from one of the 9/11 planes caved in the building’s roof and heavily damaged the interior, the exterior is mostly intact.
Last year, the Cordoba Initiative and the American Society for Muslim Advancement paid $4.85M cash to Soho Properties for the property on Park Place. They are currently using it to hold prayer meetings.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said the future project will be a community center, which includes a prayer hall, modeled after the YMCA. It is to hold a 500-seat auditorium, a swimming pool, art exhibition spaces, bookstores, and restaurants.
Cordoba is a symbol of Islamic conquest because the term ‘Cordoba’ refers to Cordoba, Spain. According to Newt Gingrich, it is “the capital of Muslim conquerors who symbolized their victory over the Christian Spaniards by transforming a church there into the world’s third-largest mosque complex.”
Supporters of the mosque proposal defend that the Islamic cultural center would demonstrate America’s religious tolerance and improve interfaith relations, that it will promote “integration, tolerance of difference and community cohesion through arts and culture” based on the Islamic values of “compassion, generosity and respect for all.”
To which the Newt answers:
- “Those Islamists and their apologists who argue for ‘religious toleration’ are arrogantly dishonest. They ignore the fact that more than 100 mosques already exist in New York City. Meanwhile, there are no churches or synagogues in all of Saudi Arabia, and they lecture us about tolerance.”
- “We have not been able to rebuild the World Trade Center in nine years. Now we are being told a 13 story, $100 million megamosque will be built within a year overlooking the site of the most devastating surprise attack in American history.”
- “The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over. America is experiencing an Islamist cultural-political offensive designed to undermine and destroy our civilization.”
“Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allâh, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allâh and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” Surah 9: 29
Mosab Hassan Yousef, son of one of the founders of Hamas, asks, “Why was this particular site selected? Because the need for a $100 million mosque is so great? Because 45-47 Park Place is the only place left in Manhattan to put a mosque?”
And he answers, “No. Because it will make a powerful political and religious statement.”
The Center for Security Policy Director Frank Gaffney states that the mosque will be used to “symbolize America’s defeat at the hands of her enemies.”
In May of this year, A New York community board voted 29 to 1 (9 abstentions) in favor of the plans to build a mosque and Islam center near the 9/11 site. The project also has the support of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Rep. Anthony Weiner, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, and state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, now the Democratic gubernatorial candidate.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio called on Cuomo to investigate the sources of funding for the $100 million project. Cuomo accused Lazio of Islamophobia and defended the building of the center based on religious freedom rights.
There are those Muslims (see 3d video below) speaking out against gloating and being confrontational by building a mosque at Ground Zero.
Some thought the antique building designed by the famous architect Daniel D. Badger could be deemed an historic landmark (proposed for historic designation in 1989); but just this past Tuesday the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission voted unanimously(?) not to grant historic status to the site, which means planning and construction for the mosque may go forward.
The joint statement from the New York Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU were pleased with the Board for “promoting our nation’s core values and not letting bias get in the way of the rule of law.”
From retired Brigadier General Dov Shefi who lost his 29-year-old son Hagai (“a genius of geniuses”) in the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers:
- “I think that the establishment of a mosque in this place, a place that serves as a memorial site for 40,000 families, is like bringing a pig (an unkosher animal) into the Holy Temple. It is inconceivable that in all the city of New York, this site was specifically chosen to establish an institution that represents the culture that led the terrorists of Al-Qaeda to carry out the greatest crime ever.”
- “America sometimes loses its mind. America raised the banner of the freedom and liberty, allowing everyone to express an opinion, but this belief often makes them lose sight of reality.”
Rosemary Cain of Massapequa, L.I., whose son, Firefighter George Cain, 35, was killed in the 2001 attacks, called the project a “slap in the face.”
- “I think it’s despicable. That’s sacred ground,”
- “How could anybody give them permission to build a mosque there? It tarnishes the area.”
The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) plans to appeal the decision to construct the Cordoba House because the building currently at the site “stands as an iconic part of the cultural and historical fabric of America.”
It appears the ACLJ has one whale of a case as the Commission last January granted landmark status to the building at 311 Broadway on the grounds that there were very few Italian Renaissance, palazzo-style buildings left in the city.
Bill Keller, a televangelist from Florida who served several years in federal prison for insider trading, called the Islamic center “a spit in the face of the people of New York.” His words are very strong, drawing protests from CAIR, as he calls Islam a “1,400-year-old lie from hell” and Mohammed a “murdering pedophile who propagated his false religion through hatred, violence and death.”
He plans to take action by building a $1 million Christian center in lower Manhattan.
- “If they can put a mosque near Ground Zero, we should be able to put a Christian center near Ground Zero and give people a choice.”
Islamic Center of Tri Cities is located in Richland at 2900 Bombing Range Rd. When Yakima’s population is broken down by religion, .15% claim to be muslim.

Islamic Infiltration: “Support candidates for office who are unafraid and undaunted by the power of radical Islam, even if they are not from your district. Especially those who will openly name radical Islam as the enemy of the United States, i.e., Lt. Col. Allen West, candidate for congress from West Palm Beach. Rep. Sue Myrick, ( R) of N.C. is among the few who have the guts to stand up and speak the truth. These are the leaders who will make a difference in the nation’s future.” “Vote the person who will openly stand up to radical Islam, much like Rudy Guilliani did when he refused dirty oil money ($10M) from a Saudi sheik after 9/11.”
Update, August 13: Obama now weighs in on this “local matter.”
“Let me be clear as a citizen, and as president, I believe that muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.”
From Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.: “While the muslim community has the right to build the mosque, they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who have suffered so much.” Article, click here.
Obama later clarified: “I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there.”
First he says he will support the right to build, then he says he won’t support the wisdom. He will, then he won’t– reminds me of the Carl Perkins song, ‘Honey Don’t’. Fun Beatles video.
