Cocomo is an eight month old Australian Shepherd mix. Who wouldn’t want a guy like this who is already crate trained and knows commands such as sit, lie down and stay. Be warned though, him following such commands comes at a price (he accepts all forms of payments including, but not limited to dog treats).
When it comes to walks for his daily exercise one may wonder at first who is walking who. He will need some attention to help control his over ambitious pulling while on a leash.
Australian Shepherds are known to be an easy-going kind of dog. They are excellent breed to have with children. As children are known to be active the same goes for this breed of dog; playtime is a favorite activity for them. Anyone looking for a dog that is loyal, devoted and friendly will want one from this breed. They are affectionate, lively and will do anything when it comes to pleasing its people. It is highly intelligent and training is easier than with some other breeds. Because they are from the herding group they may attempt to nip at feet in the attempt to ‘heard’ them. This can be corrected with training to show the dog that is not okay.
Since they are good guardians they may become suspicious around strangers. Proper socialization should be kept with this breed.
It is important to note that since this breed is so active, regular and daily exercises and other forms of activity will be needed. If this dog becomes too inactive it may become nervous and destructive.
Apartment living is not suitable for the Australian Shepherd. They will need a backyard to be active in when walks, hiking or other exercises are not available.
Their average life expectancy is 12 to 15 years.
Cocomo is friendly with men, women, children and dogs (supervision while feeding around other dogs is necessary due to a history with growling). A meet and greet is recommended for all members of the family to ensure a perfect match.
