In a sport full of contrasting and charismatic individuals, Roger Mayweather has always been an original. The 49-year old trainer has a vicious and unforgiving way with his tongue and despite his comments sometimes seeming a bit detached from reality, he always gets his point across.
Roger again thrust himself into the spotlight this week with his thoughts towards Manny Pacquiao and the Filipino icon’s possible future in the ring with his nephew Floyd. In a one on one with John Martinez from Boxscore News, the outspoken trainer spoke in depth about his still-apparent suspicions towards Pacquiao using illegal drugs, Floyd’s whitewashing of Shane Mosley and how he still hopes the fight between the world’s two best fighters can be made.
Hearing Roger sound off only tells half the story, however, as he has always had a way of standing out with his remarks and a look back at some of his conversations is testament to such. From the early days of criticizing Floyd’s work ethic, his relationship with his brother Floyd Sr. as well as his beliefs in life, Mayweather is a man who is unapologetic and often humorous with his thoughts.
