This is part 1 of a 2 part series.
Americans of Hispanic descent have a unique perspective on illegal immigration. The following are the words of a Hispanic American who speaks fluent Spanish. The person asked that her/his identity be protected because of the dangers s/he would face if it were made public.
I’ve been in a unique position because I’ve supervised so many illegal aliens in my line of work. I’ve seen the injustices bestowed upon them like low wages, long hours, working of up to 6 months without a day off or not being able to return home to see family during these 6 months, even the physical abuse by management, and the leverage bestowed on management to deport employees if they did not comply.
Yet I’ve also seen how the hiring of only illegal aliens has change the workforce in my field. I spent just 3 months short of full retirement with an employer only to lose my job due to being wrongly incarcerated.
During incarceration I was befriended by many illegal aliens in jail. I was moved to five different pods where in each the percentage of illegal aliens was over 33 percent not the 5 to eight percent the justice system wants you to believe.
I was told how the state funds the transportation of illegal drugs by deporting them back when, after they’ve sold all but a few grams, they go near pioneer park to get busted where upon getting free room and board along with meals in jail our state gives free transportation back to get more duffel bags before returning to another state.
I know hundreds and I mean hundreds of illegal aliens who are still friends with me and talk to me about how stupid our state is in regard to immigration. They say e-verify is a joke because there’s no penalty, they won’t work for a company that has over 14 employees. [Editor’s note: Under Utah law only companies with 15 or more employees are required to use E-Verify).
They say they would go back and gain legal acceptance if they had to but this state has no backbone to enforce it so why!
When I left my long-time employer I had to work for a non-union contractor who had 20 employees who are all illegal. I tried to get the company to help them get workable visas but was told if they did that they no longer would have leverage on them.
We were never under bid on any job because we had low cost with illegal aliens. Hence all contractors in the same field throughout the western U.S. have had to resort to only hiring illegal immigrants to compete. Don’t believe me check for yourself.
I know many contractors from painters to home builders to landscapers who are now having to do the same to compete or else run the risk of not being able to feed their families as long as you don’t have more than 14 [employees].
I no longer work for this company because I no longer could be a part of this injustice yet now have not been able to retain work in my field because I’m told in order to gain employment with them I must accept the same as an illegal. Don’t tell me they’re not taking our jobs I’M PROOF!
