Often times, when people decide to try and lose weight, they will resort to following (or at least attempting to follow) a very restrictive diet. Such diet plans may make no room for small indulgences, and most likely will not make any considerations regarding the psychological causes of weight gain and overeating. These are just a few problems with most weight loss plans. Many of them are very similar in their approach. Sure, some will include a few gimmicks that are difficult to keep up in long term.
If you have tried to lose weight in the past, you have probably attempted to do so using the aforementioned formula, which mostly involves cutting back on the number of calories you eat and nothing more. If so, you’re not alone. Below, we will take a look at five weight loss mistakes you are probably making now or have in the past. We will also discuss how to correct them so that you can stop being your own worst enemy. ??
Filling Up On Prepackaged Fat-Free Foods?
If you don’t know any better, fat-free pre-packaged foods seem like a dieter’s dream. They are healthy and low in fat, right? Well, the answer may surprise you. Many fat-free or low-fat foods of this type have a lot of calories, many of which, are empty calories. Because they are often low in nutritional value and fiber, they aren’t filling which makes you want to keep eating. Before you know it, you’ve ‘scarfed’ down an entire box of fat-free cookies. This certainly won’t help your weight loss cause. ??
Not Drinking Enough Water?
Water is very good for you. Our bodies need it and it offers those that drink it, a great deal of benefit. Water helps to get rid of toxins and also allows the body to work more efficiently, which helps the metabolism work optimally. Another benefit of drinking water that far too few people are aware of is this; water can help you eat less. Sometimes when the body seemingly craves food, it really wants water. It’s dehydrated. For this reason, when you have a craving for food, you should drink a glass of water first and see if it quells your hunger. If not, drink a glass or two anyways and then eat. You’ll feel full and will want to eat less.
??Failing To Figure Out What Drives You To Overeat
?If you cannot figure out why you overeat, a dieting plan, even the best one in the world, will not work long-term. Individuals who fail to determine what drives them to eat even when they shouldn’t are relegating themselves to a lifetime of yo-yo dieting.
??Failing To Plan
?Many times, people eat unhealthy because they don’t have healthy alternatives prepared. Prepare healthy meals and snacks over the weekend so that you are not tempted to eat unhealthy ones. If you can’t do that, at least plan your meals for the day in advance so that when you get hungry you won’t be tempted to resort to unhealthy choices because you will have planned ahead.??
Being Too Strict With Yourself?
Learn good eating habits that you can maintain for your entire life. No one is able to follow a restrictive diet plan their entire life. While these types of diets can be good for short-term weight loss, the results typically don’t last long.
??If you are committing any of the aforementioned mistakes, don’t be discouraged, just learn to do better. Figure out what is driving you to overeat, avoid especially restrictive weight loss plans, plan out your meals and prepare them ahead of time. Drink plenty of water and leave those prepackaged weight loss foods on the shelves at the grocery store. You’ll be glad that you did!
