“Just signed with MMA Inc. and Team Alpha Male… The Lance Palmer era is here, hate it or love it.”
With that message on his Twitter account, Lance Palmer, four-time NCAA All-American and 2010 NCAA Division I finalist for Ohio State, has signed with MMA Incorporated to manage his mixed martial arts career and will move to Sacramento, Calif., to begin his MMA training with Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, according to MMAWeekly.com .
Faber, who wrestled in college at UC Davis, said Monday, “Palmer will be a great fit for Team Alpha Male. He has the type of work ethic we look for in a team member and is one of the toughest wrestlers in the country. He has a champion’s mentality and that is what we look for in our teammates.”
Palmer was a four-time All-American as a Buckeye wrestler. As a senior, he won the 149-pound title at the 2010 Big Ten conference championships, defeating rival Brent Metcalf of the University of Iowa in the finals. Two weeks later, the two met again in the title bout at the 2010 NCAA D1 championships, with Metcalf winning his second national collegiate crown. Before entering Ohio State, Palmer wrestled at St Edward High School in suburban Cleveland, where he was a four-time Ohio state champ. He is also one of the subjects of a new amateur wrestling documentary, Pinned.
Palmer has expressed a strong interest in launching a career in mixed martial arts for years; he was the subject of a Cleveland Plain Dealer story last July. Mentally, he seems to be ready. His Twitter bio now says, “MMA fighter… in the beginning of my career to the top! “
