The 2010 Arlington Million thoroughbred horse racing weekend will begin with a bang on Friday, August 20th. Five veteran jockey legends will saddle up to race against five current leading jockeys in a turf race, titled “Young Guns vs. Cagey Veterans.”
Retired jockey stars slated to mount up for the “Young Guns vs. Cagey Veterans” race on August 20th include (listed alphabetically by name):
- Zoe Cadman – veteran jockey and television personality
- Patti Cooksey – 2010 Female Legends winning jockey
- Mark Guidry – two-time Arlington Park champion jockey
- Earlie Fires – Hall of Fame jockey
- Otto Thorwarth – veteran jockey
The “Young Guns vs. Cagey Veterans” race roster has already seen two veteran jockey changes.
Jean Cruguet, 1977 Triple Crown winning jockey, had planned to join the race, but was unable to do so. Jean Cruguet will be replaced by Otto Thorwarth, the jockey who plays Triple Crown winning jockey Ron Turcotte (Secretariat’s jockey) in the upcoming Disney Secretariat movie (due in cinemas in fall of 2010)..
Hall of Famer Gary Stevens, sidelined with a recent injury, will be replaced by Zoe Cadman, a retired jockey who now works as a television racing analyst for HRTV.
Young Guns roster includes Arlington Park’s top jockeys of today.

Pari-mutuel wagering will be open for the “Young Guns vs. Cagey Veterans,” which will take place one day before the 28th running of the prestigious Arlington Million race at Arlington Park, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Jockey legends to appear in “Dining with the Dynasty” fundraiser
Also on Friday, August 20th, jockey legends from the past and present will participate in a charity banquet to raise funds for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and the Racetrack Chaplaincy of America. The following jockeys are scheduled to appear at the “Dining with the Dynasty” event:

What is the Arlington Million?
The Arlington Million is a 1.25-mile, Grade I turf race for thoroughbred horses (aged three years and up), held at Arlington Park Racetrack, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series, the Arlington Million was the first thoroughbred horse race in the United States to offer a $1 million purse (in 1981).
The 28th running of the Arlington Million will be aired live on HRTV on Saturday, August 21st. Coverage will include the Arlington Million race, as well as the Beverly D. Stakes and the Secretariat Stakes (all Grade I races).
